Well now, Win 8.1 as an operating system is a 'Alice in Wonderland' type of system. :thumbdown;
There is no smoothness in learning of it, nor any sense in how layed out, or how it functions for a serious computer user.
At least is the way I'm experiencing it.      :Kit n Stik;

Microsoft Windows 8.1, as designed, is not the way I use a computer. :rant;   :puke;

Microsoft needs to do as GM did, with those responsible for the faulty ignition 'switch'installed in many automobile models.     :thumbdown;        FIRE THEM.   >:D

Fire anyone involved in designing and approving Microsoft Windows 8.1.
Oh, I understand the 'why' of what is / was intended by those designing it.
But they should have approached it all before sniffing glue, and using LSD.
Do I dislike Win 8.1, sheesh words cannot describe my disgust with it.
Am I miffed, yes.
Am I pissed, yes.
Did I cuss, yes.
Did I read 'Windows 8.1 for Dummies', yes.
Have I spent time with it to learn this crazy program, yes.   :boxing;
Were I to put into words, all the words used after the install, would need to X rate this post.  :oops;
Would I recommend this Microsoft Windows 8.1 to anyone, NO.    :thumbdown;
Oh there will be a few that will love it,     :guitar:      (no wont say it!) ;D

Have Wabi-Sabi'ed Win 8.1, and may eventually return to normal insanity!     :sir ken;

I have avoided updating my work PC and am on widows 7.  I will retire before 8 is forced.  My home system is a apple running OSX.  It's running VMware fusion so I also have a Solaris system and a windows 7 system running on it.

Thanks for the response.

Sheesh, have been through many MS versions, going back to the early DOS days, and Win 8.1 is actually worse than Vista, and am long time retired.

Have not actually used Win 7,  so am asking, 'How close is the XP' mode, to real Win XP!

This is a common complaint of both business and retail (us home users) and again why businesses do not want to switch over like when  XP was replaced by that horrible operating system I dare not speak of. Now businesses have Windows 7, which is fairly new to businesses switching over to, why would they want to switch over to an operating system not meant for them. It's not even a good touchscreen system in my opinion. First time users can not find what hey are looking for right out of the box. You have to download a program to get it to work like it should with a start menu and task bar.

I have a Windows SURFACE.  Seems like I paid a lot of money to play "Nemo's Reef" and "Wordfeud".  But, I am learning my way around it.  But, if I have to do serious work I go to my desktop which is still running XP.... I just go through Google Chrome instead if IE. 

I went to Best Buy and took the class for Windows 8.1 and there were 25 of us all over 50.  Taught by a 24 year old.

My husband bought a Surface tablet and returned it in a day.  He was infuriated by it and I told him that I would not be his tech support because he wanted to be on the bleeding edge.  We have a Win7 laptop, and two iPads and two iPhones.  As soon as the cash is scraped together, that Win7 laptop is going bye-bye in favor of a MacBook. 

And this is from someone who has made a decent living supporting Windows-based machines and their applications for many years.

Did a 'Refresh' on Win 8.1.
Claims that nothing except 'system' files will be affected.
Not so, it removed 28 of my program files, some of which I'm unable to replace.
It Also removed my sound and printer drivers and am unable to restore either to the original operating condition.
Were I so inclined to cuss, would say 'what a shitty OS Win 8.1 is', I'm not so wont say it.  :Kit n Stik;
