You need to be on a liquid only diet for about a week. Your bowel needs to heal and so do not eat solids.
Hope all goes well.

Take it slow with food. Figure out what upsets your tummy and intestines and what helps. Remember the antibiotics killed all the flora and fauna in your system.

I hope you feel better soon! Can you have things like nutrition drinks instead of food for a while? Something like Ensure?

Oh, dear! Do take it easy on the food intake. Your bowels have major recuperation and healing to go through and solid food won't sit well.

Hi all.
I came home last night after a long stressful stay in hospital. Glad to be home but still in pain and struggling.
Had such an awful few days, my potassium had gone down to 2 due to the diarreah so my kidney specialist said i needed iv potassium for a couple days. Cue hysteria as my veins are shot to pieces. They eventually got me gas and air to get cannula in because i was in such a state. So one night on that they manage to take bloods....and lose the kidney and potassium results. I kid u not. Anyway they said they'd leave it til the morn. Eventually results were found potassium up to 2.8, creatinine at my normal 72 so everyone happy. Im eating, bowels not emptying much and more solid, but my temp is flaring. They dont know why (they think because i keep getting hysterical). Anyway they want to scan the operation site incase theres fluid or something. So i barely slept that night, woke up at half 5 as they siaid were gonna draw blood at 6am, this didnt happen til 9am then i went for ultrasound. The guy was so lovely looked at every organ posssible and said all was normal, he even measured blood flow in kidney and told me what a wonderful kidney it is. Anyway after that my bowels started going completely wild again cue me being hysterical all afternoon and wanting to talk to the docs. He explained it will be up and down and i have to ride with it theres no point me being in hospital. Kidny doc comes to see me, says potassium up to 3.8 and creatinine 64!! (due to having so much iv fluid over last couple days lol). He told me they are happy just take diarulyte when i have diarreah and go recover. Its funny i hadnt seen that doc since the seizure 18mths ago and i made some joke about i only see him when ive almost died and he said well i almost made a very good job of it this time. Obviously we got to the hospital in time, i knew something was seriously wrong when i puked and it wasnt bile but pooh
Ive felt so stressed this is honestly the most painful thing ive had done. When the ultrasound guy was showing me everthing my built bladder and kidney etc it just amazes me how it all fits in my little body and works, but my little body feels like its been smacked repeatedly with a baseball bat. Much worse than kidney tx, but docs said it would be cos whole gut is healing and learning to process food again. Kidney doc said its a longer recover time, so i cant really do anything fo a good while. My little boy has brought me breakfast and gets me cushions he is an angel and will make such a good doctor.
Not looking forward to later as got nurse coming out to take the staple clips out of my scar ive never in my life had this always dissolvable ones so worried gonna have a panic attack again. My back is very sore from holding myself in certain ways but i did sleep better last night. Just want my stitches out then desperately wanna wash my hair!
Luckily its half term so steve has been off this week, my mum is coming up tomorrow for as long as because i cannot lift or care for elena. Dilemma for her is dad as he is 4 weeks post heart bypass. She had to take him to docs yesterday as he passed out for moment (he's been doing really well tho). Doc took him off ramopril as his bp is low and iron so contributing to feeling faint. They said mum can go, he has a neighbour to look in on him morn afternoon and eve, must keep phone by him at all times, and if is really bad he'll stay with my mums sister. Its hard for her but we need her more.

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well! Just thought would give u an update. Am now about 3 months post my emergency bowel resection surgery and feel ok, am doing normal stuff now, my 3 yr old still says, not allowed lift me mamma!' lol i tell her it's ok now
Never had a follow up at hospital, have to see gp for referral if i have a problem! I don't, although i do get the odd diarreah maybe a couple times a week, when trying out new foods or eating too many veg/fruit.
Had tx clinic today, creatinine from bloods drawn last week was 63 !! (the kidney will turn 69 in a couple weeks!). Ive been drinking tons in the warmer weather so prob why so low. Found out why am so tired, my hb is 9.4, they think from all the diarreah previously depleted me in hospital, and i had a 10 day period that just finished (missed a month ). It was low straight out of hospital. I asked about an iron infusion but he said no, im taking liquid iron so he said to take 2 sachets instead of one and hopefully my body will catch up. But everything else is in normal range!!

I know Deanne, we're very happy, dad is sunning himself with mum in Malta at the mo so can't tell how good his kidney is doing! I had a suspected uti the last couple weeks so have been drinking tons of water and cranberry juice, so i think that's why it was so low, appointment 8 weeks ago was 67, i guess i'd say my baseline is around 70. Hydration i think is the key! Hope u r well xx
