Just this week I talked to a local friend of a friend, Bonnie.  Bonnie just started dialysis last fall and went on the transplant list a big Barnes in St Louis.

A few weeks ago her 31 y.o. cousin suffered an accident and was placed on life support.  It was soon apparent there was no hope and the family decided to donate.

As it was a family member, Bonnie received a kidney, and SIX other people received donated organs.  I understand both kidneys, liver, lungs, eyes, and pancreas were harvested before they removed all support.

7 people in all benefited from the generosity of the family.

I think that was a great thing of the family to reach out and gift the lives of so many others.

Bonnie sounded so good, absolutely estatice that she was off dialysis and that her labs are doing so well so fast.  Her 'new' kidney started producing as soon as the Dr's established blood flow!   She is taking 3 suppressants and has to have labs pulled every other day for the first three months, but she is in great spirits and expects to return to her former job soon.

Good Luck Bonnie, I will be keeping in touch and wishing well for you!

I told her we would be glad to have her as a member here, to check us out when she can.

I am always grateful to hear of a donor family make the emotional decision to donate a loved ones organs.

It's great to hear that your friend got a kidney and is doing well!  Tell her she is more than welcome here and we would love to have her!
