Hi All...

Well, I'm just back from the hospital... I'm worn out!... BUT, there's news of Mum...

Much to his surprise, her Neph. has declared her to have Moderate Mental Capacity now, and by some miracle in a position to contribute to her own care plan... So he has taken her off the Long Term Nursing Home List, and has changed her plan to transferring to a Rehab/Convalescence Unit for about six weeks of the three Rs... Rest, Recovery, and Rehab...

Meanwhile, we hammer the Health Service Executive for a hefty Home Care Package of home support... Then all going well, we get her HOME!!!!.... Not bad for a woman who was hours from death a few weeks ago, eh???...

You lot are obviously storming Heaven with the prayers!... Please continue with them... It's a long way to go yet, and anything could happen to change all of this, but there's a positive plan now!...

Thank you, everyone....

Love... Darth....

Thanks Folks....

Yes, I'm hoping that it happens... Being realistic though, I realise that anything could happen, and everything goes pear shaped....

Still, not too bad for a woman who was to live for mere hours connected to a Morphine Pump, in the care of the hospital's Palliative Care Team.... I had even spoken with a Funeral Director!...

No hope at all, said the docs... But as we Irish often say "Nobody told the corpse!"...

Love to all...

Absolutely amazing! I am keeping a good thought that this leads to your mum returning home. What a miracle that would be.

Thinking of you and your mum, Darth, and wishing you only the best. :cuddle;

Well, a bit of an update....

Mum had her plaster cast removed yesterday.... I needn't tell you, the doc was warned not to damage the only signature allowed on the cast, that of her Neph., Prof George Mellotte... http://www.beaconrenal.ie/consultants_melotte.html ... So she's now wearing a fracture brace, and is healing well...

The plan is still to get her out to a Rehab Hospital to recover, and get as strong as she can be... Meanwhile, I do battle with the HSE to get a Home Care Package...  The docs, nurses, and the Social Worker have all advised me to back off from the personal and continence care, and leave it to the professionals who will be in every day, fingers crossed!...The plan is still to get her home.....

She was listed to go to Long-Term Care in a Nursing Home when her memory was so poor... But she's perking up, and is getting witty again, so going home's now a goal to reach for!... The cheeky mare told our Home Help who visited her yesterday that she didn't like her outfit.... "Too dark", says she "makes you look old... A bit witchy, in fact!... All you're short of is the broomstick!"... Dear Lord, I've wanted her back, what have I let myself in for???... LOL!!!!!....

Love to all....

This is so fabulous! Well, maybe not for the Home Help who is probably utterly traumatized and purging half her wardrobe as we speak, but those of us safely outside Ireland welcome this brilliant news! :beer1;

Yep, I never know what she's going to come out with....

Told her Neph. that she hates his (admittedly dark) suit....

Conversation as follows......

Mum... "Don't like that suit!"...
Neph... "What's wrong with it, Elsie???"...
Mum... "It's dark, dull, dreary, and makes you look old!"...
Neph (while battling to contain his laughter) "Do you want me to stop wearing it, Elsie???"...
Mum... "I want you to burn it!"...

So said Neph. says he's going home for a cry and a bonfire!...

Oh, and this was AFTER him being nice and taking her OFF the Phosphate Binders, AND off the Renal Diet!... Says calories are MUCH more important!!!... Says she can eat what she likes!... She grinned and said "What about a banana???"... He came back five minutes later, with said banana, and tells her "Enjoy!"... She replied "Aaaw, thank you SO much for the banana... And I STILL hate your suit!"... Poor guy!.....

Very perky, Poppy....

For a woman who's been so unwell... Had a meeting with the Social Worker today... They're still planning to move her to Peamount Hospital... They do Rehab for older people with complex conditions...

Next move then is a Case Conference with Mum, and I, the Social Workers, the docs, and the Health Service Executive to plan for her coming home with daily support... Fingers crossed!...

I'm praying that it works out...

Thanks a million to everyone for all the support...

Love to all....

Thanks All...

Plan is still for her to be transferred to Peamount Hospital for between four and six weeks Rehab... Now, it's not yet certain that Peamount will take her... The dialysis being the main issue... Whether they'll agree to take that on... If not, there is a back-up plan... The hosp. she's in has an Age Related Unit, and they'll take her for Rehab if need be... Not as good as Peamount, but not a bad second....

We'll see... We should have some idea by the middle of next week...

Fingers crossed!...

Had a meeting with the Social Worker today....

Peamount will not take her!....  :rant; :rant; :rant;...

They say that they can't (I say won't!) commit to the dialysis!... Say that they can't be certain of always having someone on shift who's capable of doing it!...

So thank God for Plan B... She stays in Tallaght Hospital for her Rehab!....

Oh and I'm now filling in a pile of forms to apply for the Home Care Package!... The joys of it all....
