We are concerned about power loss the next 2 to 3 days. I have a portable electric generator that runs up to 4000 watts. Anyone here run the entire NxStage machine, cycler and pureflow off a generator?  That may be our only option if things go bad. Any concerns with this or issues?  Any advice?

I haven't run mine off a generator yet but the whole setup uses no more then 5 amps I think. It should be no problem for your generator during treatment. My bigger concern would be sustainability if you need to make a new SAC. It would be very inefficient to run the generator for the time it takes to make a SAC. I also don't know how the Pureflow would react to not having power 24hrs a day, although it would probably be just fine.

Yes, you can use your generator as per my nurse.  She always tells me to get one just in case my power goes out. However, I would not use the pure flow, I would use bags so all you have to worry about it the machine operating.  It will be much easier and you will use less electricity.

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong.  I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure.  Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life.  Does life sucks because of this.  ABOLUTELY NOT!  Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy.  Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

4kw should be more than fine. I have a 7kw whole house generator that both machines can run off of. Traveling I have a 3.5kw unit in the motorhome. On the road I use bags for obvious reasons.

I turn the pureflow off when not making batches.  I have clear a power fail alarm after power up, but there is no problem, and it accurately remembers the remaining time the batch has left.

Be careful if you turn it off with a batch in the sak made.  It will cool down to room temp. and take quite awhile to heat up again to a comfortable temp. for dialysis.

You sir are a fountain of information.   I did a tx this AM about 30 minutes after turning the system on (was off for 12+ hours) and was quite comfortable, not cold or anything.   Surprising.  But then, it was the second tx from the batch so there was less to heat up.

AS to generators - Bill Peckham used a generator on his rafting trip - might want to check how big it was (as I assume it was a relatively small portable)
