I don't know if it was my best food but for lunch at school I ate a Pizza Pocket and drank milk.  Then I'd go outside to the smoking square and have a cigarette before my next class!  Yeah, it was a stupid thing to start smoking when I was 18!  lol  I also loved Cool Ranch Doritos and Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips and Pepsi!  But I had a transplant and high blood pressure so I had to limit the salty foods!

Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets purchased from the cafeteria after my "healthy" school lunch.  It's a Pennsylvania thing.

The big thing when I was in junior high, anyway, was pizza and fries.. they used to run out of pizza in the cafeteria all the time.. and of course, a glsss of pop to wash it down.. that was before they took the pop dispensers out of the schools..

My high school and college had the same food service company.. at 10:15 every morning, they would pull the days chocolate chip cookies out of the oven.. this also happened to be when the first class of the morning would let out.  A dollar would give me 2 fresh baked, warm cookies..  Since it was the same company in college, they did the same thing.. so, I'd take my break at 10:15 so I could have my buck's worth of warm, gooey cookies.

High school in the 70's.......    Pizza Burgers, (which I have the recipe for and made them about 2 weeks ago)  and the spaghetti was awesome!   Always loved 7-up and taco Doritos.  they changes the taco chips for some reason as they do not taste the same.  Of course can't eat them now while on HD due to salt.

Depending on where you are at or from, a hero and a hoagie are pretty much the same, along with Subs . Just those large wonderful rolls that have a crunch on the outside and a bunch of white fluff in the middle. Deeeee lishus!!
With pastrami and pickles, hmmmmmm just wonderful.

They only made this (or last made it) my sophomore year (went to a 10-12 grade H.S.).  It was like a ham and cheese hot pocket, except the bread was the size of a small loaf of bread, baked fresh, and the center 2/3 or so was filled with melted cheese and ham cubes.  The thing was enormous, and reasonably priced, perfect for a teenager!

Oh, I forgot about another High School lunch fave...My school was across the street from McDonald's and I was a Junior so I could go off campus for lunch.  My school started with Sophomores and they weren't allowed to go off campus.  But my friends and I would get Cheeseburger Happy Meals because they had Lego kits in them and they were cheap!  lol  Most of the time we ate on campus though.  :bandance;

We had something called fiestadas every now and then, and those were the best days ever!  They were octagonal pizzas topped with chili meat and yellow cheese.  They had an orange grease to them.  I'm sure they were awful nutritionally but I've tried to make them myself because they were my favorite, favorite thing!  I usually bought a warm. Soft pretzel and ripped it apart,  dipping the pieces in cream cheese.  I did this so I cpujd afford a snack after school, plus catheterizing took so long that I only had time to wait in the a la carte line.  Dad gave us exact change but I was always starving at the end of the day and had after school activities.  That or a big plate of fries and a coke.  I would usually get a raspberry Snapple iced tea at the end of the day. LOL, why was no one watching me?  What a terrible diet!

What a fun thread... sadly, I can't add anything fun!

I’m kind of envious of the food options you guys had at lunch time.  Pizza, fries, varieties of chips, gravel… yum!

Maybe if we had that kind of food when I went to school, it would have been more interesting!  You know, lunch as something to look forward!  Something worth showing up to class!  :clap;

We always had some kind of soup.  From regular ol’ borscht, shchi (cabbage soup) or solyanka.  We’d have mashed potatoes or kasha on our plate with some kind of meat.  I was on a special diet so they substituted the meat with a pirozhok (stuffed pie pastry thing) filled with mushrooms, eggs or onions.  I guess whatever they had that day.  To this day, I don’t see how that was a healthier option.  We’d have a fruit (like an apple or orange) for dessert or a stuffed pastry.  We’d get a small box of juice to drink but there was always water on the table.  As you can see, boring food.  Go home and then eat the same kind of things too!   ::)
