10 years on and off dialysis

« on: August 10, 2013, 01:07:59 AM »

We have been invited to a housewarming party on a boat (a converted Thames barge apparently!!!!)
Should be interesting  :2thumbsup;
Natiurally, we are dressing up as pirates (funny hats, cutlasses, jolly roger flag) and taking pirate cupcakes with us!
Should be a fun evening.

Wow everyone has very exciting plans for the weekend!

Sugarlump that party sounds fun, my 5yr old would love it he loves pirates (not quite as much as the latest thing which is starwars tho!) Weather is good for u, enjoy!!

MaryD aww congrats on your new grandson, enjoy the cuddles :) do u have other grandkids?

ICare target shooting sounds fun, not sure id be any good it at it mind! After seeing hunger games i quite fancied a go at archery! How old is your son, is he good at shooting?

Well my hubby is a teacher so currently has 6weeks off for the summer, we've been down to stay with his parents in their holdiay home on the beach and got back thursday, tomorrow we're heading up to longleat safarai park for a couple nights (stopping at stonehenge on the way up). Then we have a couple weeks before going to my parents for a week, before the boys start back at school, and I want to potty train our just turned two yr old daughter in those two weeks. Hubby says he has lots of lesson planning to do those two weeks. Hmm i think he's trying to get out of helping!!! :)

OOOh I want to try and manage a trip to Longleat safari Park.
We managed a daytrip to Banham Zoo earlier in the year  to see the newly born twin tiger cubs which was wicked to get close up and personal with the tigers (just half an inch of glass between us!)

I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we talk about what we are getting up to on non dialysis days/times.
A little bit of normality in our lives  :beer1;

Great idea, Sugarlump! The boat party sounds wonderful!  :2thumbsup;

I have just been playing catch up. We went to town to run some errands and pick up a few things. Then I did four loads of laundry. While the laundry was running I wrote up the text for a wedding I am to perform on August 30. The time is sneaking up on me and I want the couple to have time to edit the ceremony to their liking.

I also did some food prep for the coming week, including a nice chicken salad.

I wanted to take a nice swim this evening, but rain has moved in. Sigh....

They are stripers, Sugarlump. I love your cupcakes!  :2thumbsup;

I've been grading more papers today. Carl checked the mail at school and there were several batches of final exams to grade. Sigh. I just want to stay on top of everything because this is going to be a difficult year. I'm worried that if I get behind, I will NEVER catch up!  :rofl;

I went home to my parents in Pennsylvania and attended my 25 year high school reunion on Saturday.  Thursday, we had lunch with my sister and niece in Baltimore.  Friday we relaxed at home and had dinner at the country club where my parents live.  Saturday we had lunch with my sister's family again, then the reunion.  Today, I flew back home here to Chicago.  A bit of a whirlwind trip, but amazingly good to see a lot of people from HS who I had not seen since we graduated.

I've done pretty much nothing this weekend, although, Mom and I did go to the mall on Saturday.  It was the first time I'd been there since probably Christmas.  I think I wanted to prove to myself that I could still go shopping with my mom, even if I have to get around with a walker.  We went there specifically to go to Bentley, which is a purse/luggage store.  They had this awesome sale on.  I got a messenger bag for me, a little purse for Mom, and a reusable shopping bag to put them both in for $25.  When we got home, Mom took another look at the messenger bag.  It alone was worth 50 bucks, so I did good. *G*

Having had a really busy last weekend, this coming weekend I am planning a quiet, chilled nothing special one.
But on Sunday (as the weather has cooled slightly) I am going to cook a proper Sunday roast dinner,

Roast loin of pork with crackling, sage and onion stuffing balls, roast potatoes (pre-soaked of course!!!), applesauce, veggies and gravy.
Maybe even a teensy weensy glass of local Aspalls cider.

I just really want to go to the beach.  I haven't yet this summer because I've been so sick.  But, I'm starting to feel that I'm on the mend, finally, so maybe a beach visit wouldn't be so bad.  There is an accessible beach on the north shore, but I don't think the wheels on my walker are big enough to go through the sand.

I was hoping to have a nice "down time" weekend, but last night I received the application for an annual report that must be completed. It is a LONG report, so now I know how I will be spending my weekend. Sigh.

I did every chore on a loooooooong list, except for scrubbing the kitchen floor.  The rest of the house got vacuumed, the car got scrubbed inside and out, the lawn got mowed, etc, etc, etc....Ah, close enough!  I'm going to spend the last 4 hours of my Sunday upstairs in my craft room playing with clay.  The kitchen floor can wait....

I could not find someone to go fishing with me, so I went by myself. I caught 7 nice striped bass and a saltwater catfish. Didnt have anyone to take pictures, so you will just have to believe this old fisherman.  :2thumbsup;
