Hello everyone.  I started in center dialysis last Thanksgiving.  I recently started PD a few weeks ago.  The yeear before I started dialysis I had dry heaves every morning like clockwork.  Really bad ones.  Massive headaches, restless leg syndrome, bad taste in my mouth.  All signs of uremia?  Anyway, no more throwing up and dry heaves after I started in-center dialysis.  A few weeks ago I started PD at home.  After the 1st week I started feeling nausea every morning and the past five mornings in a row, "like clockwork" I have started dry heaving again.  My legs also feel like I am getting that restless leg thing again.  I am doing four exchanges a night with a bag of 1.5% and 2.5%.  My UF is around 1200 every night.  I told the nurse she said it's just dehydration probably and I'm not drinking enough.  My gut tells my (no pun intended) that it's more than this.  The dry heaves are just like they happened before dialysis.  What  could be the problem?  Many thanks. John

Have you had your creatinine checked lately? When I was on PD my creatinine stayed very high (around 17-18) and I felt nauseated a lot of the time, frequent headaches, etc. The PD was not clearing the toxins at all. PD works for some, but not for others, unfortunately. Best of luck, I hope you get things figured out quickly.

Thank you Lex.  Glad you're back by the way.  The Dr. called me  awhile ago and said to NOT do PD tonight.  If I dry heave in the morning he thinks it might be, as  you say, uremia.  If I don't, probably a fluid issue.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I really like PD.  John

Smart doc you have there, John. I'm glad he's trying to work to figure things out and not just jumping to worse case scenario. lol And I'm hoping things work out for you and you're able to continue on with PD, it's a great option for those who can tolerate it. Keep us updated! *hugs*

I've been on PD about a year in a half. Restless legs is something I deal with all of the time. I don't get the nausea. I would check your labs and make sure your numbers look good. Keeping your phosphorus down and iron levels in check helps with the restless legs. I wish you the best.

iron levels in check. hmmmmm, does this mean high or low or just right and if it is low, does it cause the restless leg stuff??

I can't get a straight answer from my doctors but I've been told low iron levels can cause restless legs but at the same time my doctor told me that the iron infusion treatment might help me feel a little better overall but might not help with the restless legs. Huh?
