I am sad to have to notify everyone here at IHD that we have lost our second oldest Moderator Patsy Aurora Barker affectionately known to most of you as "Bajaane". She went on to be with her Lord last evening. I have no other information to pass along at this time.

As soon as we learn more we will pass it on to you.

Rest peacefully our dear Bajaane, your work on earth is over and it is now time to reap your heavenly reward that the Lord has prepared for you.

Ay-yah!!! This is such sad news!!!! Such a lovely lady, and an old IHD hand too.  Darn it, so sorry to read this news.  Bye lovely Bajanne!

wife of Gregory, who is the kidney patient: 
1986: kidney failure at 19 years old, cause unknown
PD for a year, in-centre haemo for 4 years
Transplant 1 lasted 21 years (Lucy: 1991 - 2012), failed due to Transplant glomerulopathy
5 weeks Haemo 2012
Transplant 2 (Maggie) installed Feb 13, 2013, returned to work June 17, 2013 average crea was 130, now is 140.
Infections in June / July, hospital 1-4 Aug for infections.

Over the years:  skin cancer; thyroidectomy, pneumonia; CMV; BK; 14 surgeries
Generally glossy and happy.

Sad news indeed, Bajaane had a presence here that :grouphug; will never be forgotten. I love her, and I am so sorry for her family.

Bajanne's daughter Sam says the "Going Home Celebration in Tortola" is Tuesday the 14th of May in the Virgin Islands, then they will have a funeral and burial in Barbados.
This is the Tuesday service location:
St. Georges Anglican Church

Sam posted on facebook:
"Please as we celebrate this vibrant life, please wear vibrant colours or african clothes. We are rejoicing that the Lord has taken my beautiful mother home. Thanks everyone. Please keep my family in your prayers during this difficult time."

I am trying to write a tribute to Bajanne to give to SAm for the ceremony.  I have no words, only tears, but here is what I have so far.  Please help me complete it. Send more words to describe her and ideas to be included.

All I have are tears.
No words to express the feeling of loss.
A special lady has gone from our lives.
Leaving a blank spot in my heart.
The words do not come easily in this tribute.

I didn't know her, but I wish I did. :'(

It makes me sadder and sadder to learn of all the deaths this blasted disease causes.


This damned machine is supposed to save us, not kill us. -.-  :stressed;


This is why I can't pray. It does nothing, never has for me.

August 16th, 1996 - Born in Sacramento, CA; Born with Posterior Urethral Valves
September 2008 - Large Reconstruction, bladder augmented, stoma placed and ureters fixed
September 2010 - Needed emergency hip surgery for Slipped Capital Femoral Epithysis
September 2010 - Started Dialysis without refusal (Big mistake)
Summer/Fall 2011 - "Inactivated" on the Inactive Transplant List
October 2012 - Activated on the transplant list
November 30th, 2012 - Surgeons threatening to not to a transplant based on weight
April 25th, 2013 - Lost 25 pounds (97kg), however developed highly resistant bladder bacteria, Inactivated from list until eradicated
May 15th, 2013 - Finally cleared of the bacteria, reactivating on list imminent.
May 24th, 2013 - Reactivated on the list!
June 8th, 2013 - Transplant!
June 19th, 2013 - Dialysis Catheter officially removed and returned home from the hospital!
June 21st, 2016 - Sleeve Gastrectomy
March 11th, 2019 - Revision to Gastric Bypass

The machine didn't kill her, it was kidney disease, in all likelihood.
She had a strong belief in God and I believe she's in a better place.
But that's just me.

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.
