Jinxed myself with the positive post - need buttonhole help!

After my happy post about how great my home treatments were going, I couldn't get my venous blunt in tonight. It is usually a little more difficult than my arterial, but after 20 minutes and 2 blunts, I gave up and used a sharp.  I am now worried that I damaged my track. My nurse told me not to use a sharp in my button holes, but I didn't know what else to do. I searched some older posts and saw that some others have had this same issue.  I plan on trying the blunt again tomorrow. Anyone have advice or a success story so I can sleep better tonight lol? How often can I expect this to happen? Thanks again!

aww, no jinx!!  Just something that seems to happen in the beginning of all this.  Though im just the 'sticker' of my hubby, i will add that i too had to use a sharp 2x in the beginning months.  I know that lots of others have as well and though it's advised not to, If ya gotta ya gotta, AND,,, it's been two years now and we're still using those same two buttonholes so all is not lost     Dont worry yourself tonight, i betcha anything, that all will go well tomorrow again... and  that it will too

My arterial went bad earlier this week and I used a sharp after trying for about as long as you; it happens for no apparent reason.

Not sure what your nurse thinks should happen - I used a sharp and then next run, and since, the arterial has behaved. I used the buttonhole method with sharp needles when I first did more frequent because Medisystems had not yet brought blunt needles to market. It's not ideal but I revert to sharps when needed.

If you need to use sharps try to be very deliberate in keeping the angles right and I always clean the site between needles - one concern is infection issues when the needle doesn't go right in.

Sleep well, there will be days like this but there will be more days when the needle slides right in.

When my nurse established new buttonholes,  she went in with a sharp when I couldn't get the blunt in.  no problems after.  as long as you go in at the same angle as you would for your blunt needle so that you ate going down the track and not thrpugh it, I don't see why you should have problems as a result.

We don't do buttonholes, but as stated above, sharps can be used, just go at the same angle!  As Bill indicated, there will be days like this. Won't be the first nor the last time either. Don't work yourself up over it.  Tomorrow is another day! I can guarantee you, the professionals have these problems too!

Thank you all so much! Turns out you were right. Got the blunt in without any problems today.  Glad to know others have these issues sometimes, too.  My hubby was pretty upset with me for using a sharp in my button hole. I told him I had consulted the experts on IHD lol! He was not as convinced as I was
