Hi, my name is Paul (obviously lol) I'm 29 and I come from England and currently have stage 5 ckd and awaiting my fistula to mature before I can have my first session of Dialysis.

I was diagnosed with CKD in the run up to Christmas 2010 and had 27% kidney function and was told I would have 10 years before I would even need dialysis, but lo and behold my body decided to prove them wrong and had a kidney function of 7% just 2 weeks ago, I had my fistula formation down precisely 1 week ago and my scare is healing well but its all been a little alarming as you no doubt know, I have an intense fear of needles, even thinking about them is enough to send a shiver down my spine.

I have a living donor in the shape of my brother but he has a BMI of 34 and before he can be considered a suitable non at risk donor he has been told to get it down to at least 30 so I am quite lucky in that I only have to wait a while while he gets back into shape.

I'm just accross the Irish Sea from you, in Dublin...

I'm caring for my mum, Elsie who has KF, and Parkinson's... She's on CAPD which I administer, as she's too shaky to do it herself...

You'll like it here, but I warn you, they're not all as quiet, shy and retiring as I am!... Can you hear the hysterical from elsewhere on the site???... They know me too well!...

Cared for my late mum, Elsie who had Kidney Failure... Darling mum died on July 15th 2014... May her gentle soul rest in peace....

G'day Paul. Sorry to hear about your rapid decline. Mine was kind of rapid too. The needles aren't so bad, just don't watch them being inserted. You must be looking forward to getting started and feeling better. You'll notice an improvement fairly quickly. The whole deal is rather time consuming, but it keeps us going. Stay positive. Welcome to the site.

Hiya!  Where in England are you?  I lived in Surrey for 18 years.

Tell your brother to get up off his arse and lose those kilos!  LOL!  I'm glad you have a living donor in the works; that's huge!

"Alarming" is an understatement, but I guess that's oh so British of you.  Keep Calm and Carry On and all that... :P

Glad you joined IHD.  You'll get a LOT of support and info on this forum.

 :welcomesign; Paul from another England-er (East Anglia)! My Blokey was on haemoD and he was terrified of needles when all this malarkey began.  It's amazing what you can get used to when you have to.

Here's hoping your brother can shift those pounds quickly!

Hi Paul, im another England-er (from Exeter) and was also 29 when i started dialysis. Hope you're doing ok and here's hoping your brother can shed that weight nice and quickly! Welcome to the site, everyone is really great on here and were such a support to me when i started.  :cuddle;

Welcome to our community, Paul.   I am from little England (Barbados)!  And I am living in a British outpost - the British Virgin Islands.   So glad that you found this forum and decided to join.  Just the place for information and support.  This is a place where you can feel free to rant, rage, vent, or rave.  This your new IHD family.  :grouphug;  Just keep on reading and keep on posting.  My daughter wants to give me a kidney, but she need to bring her BMI down to 30, just like your brother.  When I do get the transplant, it will be in England.

Hi i myself is in dublin aswell so first of all wellcome  :waving; this is a great site lots of questions and lots of answers too i hate needles aswell so i just dont look after a while you will do just fine

Welcome Paul,

I also hate needles. In fact when I was in my 20's I would pass out and had to warn the nurse. About 5 years ago I had to give myself shots. The first time it took me about 4 hours to do it, sweating all the time. Now I can give myself a shot but still look away when a nurse does it or I see it on TV.

I have only been on PD for 4 months but have found I feel so much better with dialysis. I'm sure you will too!

 A bit late on your welcome.  I'm the one who has the CKD, not on dialysis and trying to stick to my renal diet.  Lots of info here.  ANd also lots of fun.  BTW, my husband is from New-Castle_Upon-Tyne.  A Geordie.  But don't hold that against us.
