Hi any help warmly recieved i need to lose weight i am at present 108 kilos and i need to get to 90 kilos to get on the list , i am realy struggleing with this i go to the gym 5 days a week . I do 1 hour and 10 minutes on the treadmill and then i walk for 1 to 2 hours in the swimming pool .The surgeon i seen in the end of november told me i was to heavy as i was 103 kilos , so i have to lose weight now .Here we are nearly 4 months later and i have put on over 5 kilos ? its driving me bonkers i am also very tired all the time . No matter what i say to doc the same answers for any questions i ask her she says  (IT YOUR ILLNESS) you just have to keep trying i am starting to miss days at the gym so as i dont drink more fluids .This ice cube thing is driving me mad , any help would be wellcome maybe some of yous have had to lose the weight and yous did.

Managing ones weight is difficult, kidney disease aside.

Unfortunately I lost my weight being sick. In the last year I have lost almost 20 kilo's. I can't say that I've actually tried, but not eating works wonders.

Do you see renal dietician? I'm sure they can assess and recommend the proper amount of nutrients and proportions for you.

From my experience carbs are the biggest culprit. I think I remember that you mentioned you were already on dialysis from another post? if so, bulking up on protein and limiting carbs serves a dual purpose. Again, consult with a proper dietician for your own personal needs.

Hi Dublin,

I do understand your frustration. Weight loss can be a butt! Here is the problem with going to the gym is that you have to burn off more calories then you put in. So even thou you are going and working out you have to so many calories of what you eat everyday to begin seeing weight loss.

I don't want to be be mean...but are you watching what you are eating and any snacks? Sometimes those things can can mess you up too. Oh and her is a huge kicker!! A lot of things that say fat free end up being worse for you cuz they add other things for flavor but it add calories. They now say even diet soda is a no no cuz it makes you crave sweets. Really what are we going to do...

To be honest I have not had problems with my weight cuz I'm a crazy picky eater but i have see a lot of dr shows on the topic so I hope I can just pass on what I have learned from the shows. I hope it helps...

I hate to give specific advice because everyone is different. But, when I was actually trying to lose weight I found big changes tend to fail more often.They aren't sustainable. My own personal rule of thumb and by experience it did actually work for me, was to just try and cut 100 calories per day. For me, and I have also seen it reported for others too, may translate into approximately 0.5k per week. That may not seen like much, but that's the point. It's not drastic enough to put your body into a reactionary state and mentally it is doable. The only drawback is being able to look far enough ahead and not be disappointed expecting large losses immediately.

The key is that it is a firm and measurable goal. You can see and relate to 100 calories as an amount. You can cut back say a number of grams of a portion size or a number of pieces of food. It doesn't require formulas or calculators.

Again, check with a proper nutritionist for medically sound advice.

I've been somewhat doing the Eat to Live diet for a couple weeks now and have lost a few pounds with no added exercise.  I haven't been sticking to it completely, either.  I'm ordered to do low phosphorous and it fits with that pretty well.

GFR down to 10.
Deceased donor transplant August 24, 2013.  Perfect match. So far so good!

THANKS for all the help i am on the renal diet since i was ill and only have eaten more fruit than i am allowed no sweets no chips bananas grapes cheese i go dialysis bed , gym  ,home,  in bed at 10pm only to wake up in severe pains in the hands now is that a sad life or what even the other patients snigger at me for being so good even some of them drink before dialysis sometimes i wonder if its worth it being a goody good as some call me i just seem to get kicked when i am down i was told this in jest by hospital doc who i never seen before well if you dont like what you are doing go drink

hey ye Dub... all i can say is NOT ALL Dr's graduate near the top of their class.. and a good many have NO class... believe me i speak from personal experience... i know the feeling about the hand pain but i have the opposite prob.. I've dropped over 30 lbs in 3 months from being sick with this Renal Failure... before hand i tried many different ways to lose weight  but nothing ever worked.. now for example tonight I'll have 20 oz of Diet Sprite with a jello snack and that's it.. in the am I'll prob have a bowl of cereal and that'll be it.. the jello will sit fine with me.. but within the 30 mins of the cereal I'll be sick... i see this post is a wee bit old so i hope everything went better for ye tho since
