I got a call at 2:30am, I was exhausted and fast asleep, and apparently the hospital tried 3 times, but I didn't move until the last call and i never made it to the phone in time.  They also tried my cell, but apparently it was dead and charging, never noticed the calls until the morning.  But nothing to my pager.  After calling my dad to be sure he was okay, because the number came in as unknown name/number,   I decided to call the transplant office, sure enough, there was kidney for me, but because I didn't make it to the phone on time, it went to someone else.   I asked why they didn't try the other numbers I provided, and they mentioned it's up to the discretion of the person calling.

 I just feel disflated that i missed my chance at a transplant,  My boyfriend was trying to cheer me up saying it wasn't my time yet, my kidney is still out there.   From now one I am sleeping with my cell phone on full blast and my home phone next to the bed, so I won't trip trying to get it.

I am so sorry to hear that.  But like your BF said, because you got one call, that means that the next is surely soon to come.  I know that I keep my phone on full blast next to my bed at all times.  I did get one call at 4:45 AM and it scared the living daylights out of me.

Sorry to hear of your diasppointment. I missed out on a chance but for other reasons, and it hurts.

I am totally anal and I sleep with my ohone on high and keep it next tio me 24/7. I even take it in the bathroom with me. I also make sure to have a charger in every vehicle and always take 2 with me whenever I travel. It's massive overkill, but it works for me.

Good luck and I hope the next call comes very soon.

I'm sorry! This is one of my greatest fears. I try to keep my phone on me at all times, but I have to do things like shower and I never think of it when I make a quick trip to the bathroom or to the cafeteria to grab lunch at work.

I'm really sorry to hear this.  It must be extremely frustrating.  But like the others have said, getting a call at all is a good thing.  I hope you get another one soon!

Thanks everyone.. I feel better.   I am just disappointed with the hospital not trying my pager or my bf cell #.  His cell was in the bedroom with us and my pager was on full blast in my purse in the hall way.  And if they called one more  time,  i know I would have picked up.

But I am happy, that someone else got the gift of life..

That stinks that they didn't page your beeper - have you checked it to make sure it's working? When we had our pager, when the call came, we had left the pager at home because we were told that my husband would be on medical hold as he had just had his parathyroid out that Monday. They did get us on our cell phones but it was also daytime. I can imagine the same scenario playing out here at that time - I sleep through like 4 alarms every morning.

But like everyone says, you're close and your kidney is out there  :cuddle;

"At their discretion"  Are you f-ing kidding me?  What heartless soul at the other end of the line decided to keep calling two of the numbers repeatedly, but not try any of the others on the list?   :Kit n Stik;

Hang in there Rain - at least you know you are at the top of the list!
