Buttonhole Question regarding Lidocaine Cream 30GM

Have anyone use Lidocaine/Prilocanie cream for their buttonholes?  I am starting to feel some pain while inserting by needles.  I've asked my doctor to give me something to numb it. He described Lidocaine cream 30GM for me.  Now as I was reading the instructions, it stated that the cream is not to be used on open skin.  Now my buttonhole is open skin, how do i use this cream?  Also, it statement that you should not spread the cream on your skin.  Again my question is how do I use this cream?  Is anyone using this cream for buttonholes?  If so, can you tell me how you using it?

I used to use lidocaine/prilocaine .sp? which was prescribed as a generic for Emla cream.   I am not sure if there would be any difference if it was lidocaine only.  ask your doc. if you are really concerned.  you don't need to spread it, just put a blob from the tube onto each buttonhole and cover with Saran wrap for approx. an hour.  I used to purchase a pack of tegaderm from Amazon because I could never get the Saran wrap to stay on.  not sure if the buttonholes class as an open wound when you put the cream on, since they will have scabs on when you put it on.  the cream does make for easy sca b removal as a bonus!

John uses the lidocaine cream. He usually has scabs over his holes. He applies 30 minutes before treatment and covers the holes and lidocaine with band aides.

I used Lidocaine cream too for the buttonholes, worked great, like stated by the previous authors.

I have buttonholes and have used the Lidocaine/Prilocane cream for about 3 years now.  One hour before dialysis I wash the access and put a small amount over each scab.  I then put a tiny piece of Saran Wrap on each one and a piece of tape.  It numbs the sites and like they said makes the scab come right off.

I use Pain Ease and am happy with it. The center provides it, so for me that works. Otherwise it's pretty expensive.

 I save my fistula needle wrapper and I cut a 1 to 1 1/2 inch squares. then I take my paper tape and make a island bandage using the piece of plastic as the center piece.
It works great for me.

I've found something else that works super. It's a single use pad like an alcohol wipe called Sting Relief by Safetec. They contain Lidocaine. I found them at a garage sale and they are awesome. After picking my scabs I use a wipe and wait just a minute or two. It numbs the area and lasts for maybe 10 -15 min. I am using both that and the Pain Ease and I feel pretty much nothing. They're available on Amazon.

Wife uses the lidocane/provacane and has for just over 8 years.  We button hole.  She still says it hurts. clinc pays 100% of the cost.  She uses a tube a week.

Right now my clinic pays for the Pain Ease, but will look into switching to the Sting Relief. It works better and it's cheaper.
