I posted another question about mypd site being red and nurse is concerned. She called me in keflex antibiotic 500 mg 3 times a day. Now obviously I am very involved in my care. She said this is what is usually prescribed. I am concerned because I still have some kidney function and I want to keep It. Usually when I get some kind of upper respiratory infection I take a renal impaired dosage of an antibiotic I assume because my kidneys are not clearing. I did ask my doctor and he said it was fine but he has been wrong about a lot of things in the past and I'm just waiting to get my new pd doctor. I see this is the standard dosage for I guess exit site infection but for those who have some function still did yr doc change the dosage. I know it is excreted by the kidneys and can be toxic.
You are correct in saying you should be careful in teh dosing. I am trying to recall what dosage I have been on when I had an exit site infection. I know for vanco, they always reduce the dosage by half. Did they give you any antibiotic cream as well ?? Just look up the side effects as you may experience some of them. I would also double check with your nephrologist about dosing..
