I am sorry that I have not been on here in a while. My husband lasted 10 days without dialysis. I woke up at 5 am on February 3rd and found my husband laying in the floor in our living room. He was cold to the touch but still breathing. He was unconcious from a low blood sugar and I could not get his sugar back up. I called the hospice nurse and we went ahead and started comfort care from his decision we had when they met with us that if he was down due to his sugar not to call anyone in but hospice. The nurse thought maybe he could have had a stroke also. He came to for a while that day and knew his mom and me , our best friend and all of our family that were at our house along with a few friends. The pastor was here and we decided we would do the baptism at home while he was in our bed. After the baptism he gave everyone a thumbs up sign!

By the time 2 pm came around he was talking to everyone that came in our house to see him...... more friends and I mean alot of people were here probably 30 or so. They all got to talk to him and he told them hi and I love you. This was a blessing from God! At 3 pm he did not speak anymore and we moved him to a hospital bed. Two of our friends carried him from our bedroom to the dining room and he just stared into a corner for the longest time. I think he was seeing angels.

At 5 pm our family doctor who is a close friend of the family came by and did an exam. He said that his brain was swelling and would only give him 12-24 hours. More friends and family came to visit and bring food and supplies for all that had gathered while his mom, myself and our best friend never left his side for more than 10 minutes. At 2 am the last friends finally went home. We sat with him all night.

At 8 am I had each of our children go in one by one and talk to him. Then after that we had everyone else go in one by one if they wanted to speak to him privately. We had a housefull once again. I am sure my husband thought we were having a party due to everyone telling funny stories about him some I had heard before in our 18 years of marriage and most I had not.

Mike passed away at 4:55 on February 3rd surrounded by so many who loved him and he went peacefully. His eyes barely opened as he was taking his last breaths..... another gift from God.

God has blessed us in many ways since all of this. The community we live in of 800 people have been so great. I have been in awe of all of the support and hospitality from our town. We had his memorial service on February 6th. It was standing room only in our church. Mike would have been so surprised at the turnout.

The kids and myself and his family are taking it slow and day by day at this point. Please keep us in your prayers for strength to keep getting through this and THANK YOU all for your support and prayers so far!

I am so sorry.  But how wonderful that he was (is) adored by so many people and that you were both surrounded and comforted by all your friends and family at the end.

*huggles* for you all.

My condolences to you and your family; may God give you peace and understanding.  However, it’s good to know that he was able to see his friends and family before he left this world.  It shows he was a good man and very well liked by his friends and family.  Not to many people can say that.  He was truly a good hearted person.   I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong.  I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure.  Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life.  Does life sucks because of this.  ABOLUTELY NOT!  Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy.  Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

God Bless you for all you've done for him...  Its got to be the hardest thing you've had to go through but looks like you did it beautifully.  I have to tell you that the day my sister passed, she too looked off to somewhere, and the most beautiful smile covered her face.  No one can take that fullness in my heart knowing she was seeing somewhere she wanted to be.  I believe in Gods loveing arms.  Sending you love and prayers...  :grouphug;

Emma:  While we're sorry for the loss of one that we love, after having watched them suffer so much, we have to also be glad that the suffering is ended for them.  You did all you could do for him and allowing him to choose his way to go, supporting him all the way, makes you a saint in my mind.  I will keep you all in my prayers and hope you will keep in touch with all of us here.   :cuddle;

This quote has given me some comfort I hope it does for you...

There'll  be two dates on the tombstone everyone
will read them..but the only thing that matters
is the little [ dash between them ]

Your in all our thoughts, your a special person and getting that time "in between" the dashes"' offer wonderful memories.

All my best to you and your family and friends. G.
