Well, I am now using my new buttonholes and I thought that all the constant pain and alarms that I was getting were normal.   Now I know that they weren't.  Although my nurse did them for me, the needles slide in so easily, no pain, even without Emla.  Wish I had done this ages ago.

Thats amazing Amanda!!  I cant believe what we do for the sake of not changing..  Im so glad you went for it!  I've thought of moving Bos needles but we his treatments run so smooth with no alarms so dont want to mess with what works.  It just seems that he should be able to not use the emla cream but i guess everyone is different.  We use the touch method and they go in easy but he sais it still hurts. Im happy for you and glad you shared.

My buttonholes are pretty well established but I still use Ethyl Chloride. I am such a coward when it comes to pain, I doubt I'll ever quit!   :rofl;

Have you tried not using it?  I always used Emla with the old ones because I needed it for the pain.  Not for the new ones.  Tried without last night and it really didn't hurt.

 I don't get any pain at all with my venous but the arterial buttonhole has a nerve right there and it hurts like crazy. I've never used anything for the pain. My neph gave me a Rx for emula creme today so we'll see if it helps.

No, I've never tried without! Maybe someday...Like I said , I'm a coward when it comes to pain!
I can't use the Emla creme, I'm allergic to something in the creme. Not the Lidocaine! Weird, huh?
