School started last week

Back to work last Friday. I was back the previous Monday with help from my daughter and friend Marilyn.  Okarol came to help Wednesday of last week with bulletin boards.  We worked all last week with no air conditioning in the room.  We started school on Monday with no air in the room. 106 degree heat all week.  A science teacher at lunch time called the office and made a suggestion to move me and my class to another room temporarily.  I moved with a box to teach out of after lunch.   Tuesday at 1p.m. I was told that my classroom would be moving. They could not fix the air conditioner.  The improvements on the auditorium caused a problem with my air. 

So here I am three days into school on Wednesday having to pack a classroom I had been in almost ten years.  Wednesday I arrived at school and was informed five minutes before school started I could not stay in the room I was in temporarily.  Another teacher needed it.  So I was sent to my new room with my box of teaching materials, where five tables and five chairs were located for the day.  I grabbed kids and we went to get chairs for the new room from the old room.  I also had to call the office for extra chairs.  My daughter Danielle and Marilyn, along with hubby Victor came to the non air conditioned classroom and packed boxes of my classroom stuff.  They packed over thirty boxes.  Victor had words with my boss over having to move the first week of school.  My boss offered to buy them all lunch one time.

Thursday the movers show up.  They come into my new classroom to move the stuff that is in there.   I lose the five desks the kids were using.  The kids sat on chairs or the floor and wrote paragraphs for me with their notebooks in their laps.  Thank Goodness they were good and flexible while I moved classrooms.  The movers moved everything into the room.  I had the kids unpacking books and boxes and putting things away fourth and fifth period.  During school my daughter and Marilyn helped with boxing stuff and keeping the movers going. They also helped me figure out the furniture configurations in the new room after the kids left the room. Wall to wall furniture just shoved into the room.  I unpacked boxes like crazy and set the new room up.   By the end of the day there were only the game boxes to unload.  We left them for Friday and left school around 3:30p.m.

Friday- I had some kids help me pick up the trash in the old room.  I left three boxes of trash and a broken chair in the old room. Victor helped me move boxes to the new room and to the office to return empties I had borrowed from the secretary.  I unpacked the game boxes while kids worked for the first three periods.  The last box was unpacked around 11 a.m.  and the room was moved and unpacked. Plus I taught kids all day long.I was exhausted!

Monday- Danielle and Marilyn are coming to do bulletin boards around my room while I teach kids. I have parent teacher night Thursday, so got to get it done.

That was the first week of school for the 2012-2013 school year.

oh my my my.... you bring me memories..haha  I worked in a special ed classroom for nearly 20 years and it seems no year was anyeasier of a start than the last..  We were in the mts and forever changing situations w/ classroom situations.  Probably easier that way than a 10 year stay in one room      We had two adults (teacher/and aide) working in room side by side with at least 4 lessons going on at a time..lol   Ohhhh, believe me, it was kinda crazy, but it worked and i miss it...

If you can survive that, the rest of the year should be EASY!

It is the same it seems at every school. I know they have moved my mom to a new classroom every year. In fact I am going to go help her set up her classroom today for her school to start Thursday. I hope they keep her in the same classroom this year. We shall find out. But of luck to you KitKatz and I hope all is going well now. Btw what do you teach?

Good grief!  So are they going to send you back when they get the air fixed and make you do this all again?

I am just thinking about you packing up your classroom - a dialysis patient, a guy with one leg, a daughter who had car accident injuries and Marilyn (love her, but she's no spring chicken!) in the sweltering heat! You saved the school a pile of money! Lunch hardly seems sufficient. (Hahahah good use of your word for the day, huh?!)
It was fun to see you again - twice in a couple weeks, a new record.
I like your new room and hope the air keeps working.

WOW, I don't see how you did it.  I hope the rest of the year is calm....

Best of luck to you this school year.  I don't think ours starts until after Labor Day.

Did you have a whole ten years worth of teacher 'junk' (that stuff you have to hang onto in case you it comes in useful one day) to move?!  Yikes!  When I was at the School for Naughty Kids one of our teachers had to move classes at least once a year (and sometimes twice ... we had a head who loved chaos and didn't like things to remain static, especially it seems, for this one particular teacher with whom she had taken umbrage at some point).  It used to take her three or four days each time (she was a hoarder)!  You have my sympathy.  Hope you and the students enjoy your new little home.

Bulletin boards went up Monday thanks to Danielle, Marilyn and Karol. The room looks good.  I had parent night Thursday of this past week. 
We started curriculum and did diagnostic tests Mon and Tues this week. Getting to know these kids this year.
