Woke up early this morning, wondering if I should attempt the 30+ mile drive to dialysis this morning. Look close in the picture, thats about 6 inches of snow with about 1/4 inch of ice as a topping.

Looks like it would be safer just to stay home, but what if the snow doesn't go away or gets worse? How long can you go without dialysis?

And it could get worse quick. Take a cab if you need to.

It's miserable here in Ohio too.
Had snow, lots of it, hours of freezing rain
then more snow.  snowing now still.
I was supposed to go to the dialysis clinic to get my blood test yesterday.
Called and rescheduled it for Thurs.  I hope I can get out by then.
Bitter cold.
Where is that global warming anyway?
February is 1/2 over today.

Ice is the worst. With snow you can still drive, but that dang ice.

Glad to hear you made out alright!

Thought I'd rub it in that I live in Florida...lol...It's been in the 60's here. One day last week it went as high as 72 F! I miss the snow though.

Glad you got there and back safely, Joe Paul!

We have had now 10 days of non-stop snow, something like 30cm. That's crazy for here. Supposed to be nicer for the weekend. I've had enough.

Glad you got home OK Joe Paul. It ain't fun out there. :P

Thanks again to all who replied. There were only 3 of us out of 10 that came in yesterday for the morning shift.  Friday I'm afraid, there will be some hurting people, only one had the choice to come or not as the "cab company" decided not to transport patients because of the weather.

I've spent so much money on car repairs and parts this winter I couldn't even afford a cab right now. I appreciate the gesture JP.

World's Best Beach..Lanikai..Oahu, Hawaii

« Reply #16 on: February 15, 2007, 08:01:10 AM »

I grew up in New York, shoveled snow, slipped on ice, drove on it, froze in the winter, went sledding, skiing, and mostly hibernated indoors for several months of the year.  When I grew up I found out about a place called California.  Yesterday it was about 80 degrees here, cloudless, and just generally perfect.  Today looks like it is going to be about the same.  A slight breeze is just barely moving the palm fronds and I have a clear view out the window to Mt. Lee.  These days we visit New York only in the summertime...its nice then.  It is a heck of a lot greener back there in summer than this ever is but I'll take 80 in February over that.

I can relate to the snow problem.  We had about an hours drive on the highway to get to dialysis.  LaOne day last easter we were 5 hours trying to get to dialysis.  We we in a 4x4 dodge ram and could not get through it.  Then snow was so deep that the truck could not get through it even in 4 wheel drive.  We had to wait about 2 hours for the snow plow.  It was still only one lane plowed and like driving through a tunnel.  Not a fun time.  Cost us $70 in gas that day!!  Wasn't much better on the way home.  Glad we don't have to travel anymore.  There were a few scary mornings when I was waiting for hubby to phone saying that he was there.  There was only one morning when he went off the road.  It was really slushy.  He was lucky he just went out over the shoulder of the road.  He stopped cars until he got enough people to help him lift the car back on the road.

I don't want the ice on the road, but can't I have some of the cold, please?  I don't have airconditioning in my home and it is WARM!! ( and it is 8.01pm here). It is about 85 degrees now.

Oh dear Joe Paul! There's one little hurdle that I don't have to deal with, and never would have occurred to me that other people have to deal with!

You sent that post on my birthday, I note. T'was very hot here that day! I think I was swimming.
