Got state and federal back today - woooooohhhhhhooooo! - time to pay bills!

Of course, just when you think you might have a little extra, it goes up in flames.  Literally.  Our TV set caught on fire last Sunday.  Must have been a heck of a Superbowl game. . . .   so replacing the dead TV will have to come out of the refund.  Ah, well. . .. at least the regular, non-flat screen ones are pretty cheap these days.

So, got your taxes done yet?   ;D

                                Truck 2.  $800.00
                                Truck 3.  $400.00

$2400.00 in vehicle repairs so far and I'm not done. I only get $40 back from Federal.

I know where your coming from JBeany but at least your house didn't burn down and you are OK.

I don't get an taxes back...  >:(  Second year now I get nothing. I hate it. That's one of my main reasons I want to go back to work... to get a refund. When I work, I get 4500 back, due to EIC, 2 kids.

If I could change the IRS laws, I would. I have been on disability since 2004, and getting SSDI, started out 1350/mo this year increased to 1400/mo, to use to take care of myself and 2 children. Since when your on SSDI you don't pay taxes, you don get axes back... however,I still have to support and take care of 2 children... I feel personally I should still get the EIC.. but it don't work like that... so I get $0.

I wish I could change IRS laws.... but, that will never happen.

I am sorry-I do not understand....why do you deserve a refund if you haven't worked?

I am personally against EIC, why should I have to pay taxes to SUPPLEMENT someone elses income? We worked hard for what we have, and when we get a refund its because we paid too much...

In my opinion you should structure your withholdings so you don't get a refund why would you want the government to hold your money and not pay you interest if you are smart you should get all you have coming every payday. Boxman55

I agree completely.  YOU should be earning interest on your money, not the government.

Tried that, boxman.  but it's hard to get the balance right, and it's too hard on a tight budget to have to pay out when we go too far in the other direction.  Better to get a couple hundred back than be scrabbling for that amount to send in.

getting a hundred back or so is ok it is when someone is getting a couple grand back is when you need to make some adjustments. As far as the EIC it is in the codes so if you qualify more power to you. Boxman55

Just a word of advice to everyone. If you are good with your money you should not claim exepmtions for a large refund because you are only allowing the Government to make money on your money.

If your not good with money than claim less exceptions to get a larger refund.

Personally I would rather get a small refund so I can have it all year collecting interest.

And that is smart because you could make mistakes that would cost you more than what you are paying to have H&R block do them for.

I go to a private accountant because I had problems with H&R Block.

I always get a refund from the feds but not always from the state.  California is very greedy when it comes to money and they often either make me pay or break even at best.  Putting on thinking cap now and preparing for some quality time with Turbotax.
