Alports, dialysis '07-'12,cancer'11,transplant '12

« on: April 19, 2012, 04:05:20 PM »

i joined a gym this week., Planet Fitness.  I've been there three times and so far and just use the tread mill and the bicycle.  I meet with the trainer next week to get some ideas on what upper body stuff would be good for me.  I've never joined a gym in my life.  I joined because 1.  I want to be healthier!  2.  I need to loose weight.  3. I hope my son and husband will follow my lead and join, too.  And, most importantly, 4.  It's something healthy people do!

Good on ya !!!  I've been procrastinating about joining a gym for months lol . I used to go and loved it, I also used to walk for an hour on the beach every day, but no more !!  ::)  I still go out to work, with that and the fatigue that KD brings I never seem to have the energy. I do believe tho that if I was fitter, KD aside, I would feel better!
I had my fistula op last week at the same hospital that I had a knee surgery 4 years ago - the admitting nurse kindly pointed out that I weigh 14kgs more now than I did then !! Thanks nurse  :Kit n Stik;

Yay to WishIKnew!  You can start Zumba like these guys, too.   :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

Sue, when I got thinner, I think my D treatments were more effective.  Plus, I slept better and my knees and back hurt less, just like anyone who loses weight.

Tried this new step climber/jogger machine today.  Holy cow.  I am so not fit!  3 minutes on it kicked my butt!  I'm in for the challenge.  I'll do 3 and a half tomorrow!

tread mill pretty fast = 20 min
climber/jogger thing = 3 minutes
bicycle                    = 8 minutes
                             __________
                               31 minutes and I wobbled out of there on shaky legs, but it felt like a step in the right direction!

I looked at the translation, and it is called: European Transplant and Dialysis Games.
These are the only other Dialysis Games I know of: "The Dialysis Patient Games" http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=2431.0

Wow Zach, thanks for that. I'm afraid I won't be competing, or even trying to qualify, but I'm sure someone on D will. Not sure if I can compare my physical condition on D to the one I enjoyed while having a transplant though.
