Make me the person my dog thinks I am

Question for those how have already received a transplant.  When you got the call from the transplant center, how much time did you have to get to the hospital?   I've been on a couple lists for a little over 2 years and while I'm assuming I'm not close to receiving a call I was just wondering.  I work 1 1/2 hour commute north of my of home and the transplant hospital is a little over an hour south of my house.  So, if I get a call while at work I'm over 2 1/2 hours away from the hospital.  Concerned but not worried.  Grumpy

I got the call 2 weeks ago. I live just over 2 hours from the hospital. I took about an hour at home to disconnect and clean up PD, pack the car, and shower. (Always shower because they won't let you forever.) i always kept a hospital bag mostly packed but I also needed stuff to stay with my parents after. So I got there in about 3 hours. They were fine. Once I got there things moved fast but it was still 4 more hours til I went into surgery. I think you'll be ok.

We had a LOOOONG lead time. We got the call around midnight and were told t be at the hospital at 9:00 AM. But in our case the kidney was being flown in from another part of the country. So, we actually tried to go back to sleep after the call.  :rofl;

Anyway, after the kidney arrived the cross-matching took several hours. Surgery did not happen until 5:00 PM the next day. That was 14 months ago and all is fine.

Thanks Ladies.  After I posted my question, I scrolled down a bit and found another post where a lot of folks had answered the same question.  It is nice to know that I have time to get down to the hospital when the time comes.  Grumpy
