Bad day training

I am in my third week of home hemo training.  It has gone very well.  I have no fear in setting the machine up and such.  Today I am so discouraged, the arterial line would not allow me do use a blunt needle, it was so odd, so we used a sharp, but went in no problem.  The veinus was another issue, could not get a flash, then it infiltrated...ack...so we had to go above it and start another access.  It's good to have a third one for times like this, but what a stressful day, makes me rethink this path.

It isn't easy sailing every day. OMG! I was so stressed out most of the time we were training.... 

But once we got home and no one was breathing down my neck, things went very smoothly.....until those hiccups! 

Every time we had a hiccup it was stressful, but home hemo is a really good modality. 

Keep at it. Try to let the bumps fade into memory and march on!

I totally agree.  You'll be nervous when you first get home, but after a couple days doing it, you will see, its not that bad. Something else, ESRD Surv, This machine will not only alarm if the sensors detect anything (Yellow meaning something needs to be looked at by the number code given) but it will stop the pumps from running with a (Red meaning immediate attention required- it too is a number code).  The point Iam trying to make is, it has so many built in mechanisms, that you can't do anything to hurt the one on the machine.

Now you can send a huge bubble to the heart, but the machine will not lodge anything the patients way! 

Sorry bout the filtration, but that is gonna happen every now and then. Just a hiccup, as stated above!  Stick with this ESRD, it is so worth it in the long run, you'll see.
