Hobbies and stuff

I collect STUFF!
I recently was given this adorable egg cup and I just love her! Not everyone appreciates egg cups, they are all but abandoned on the breakfast table anymore. I collect them and this is destined to be one of my all time favorites!
My other hobby is photography, so here's a photo of the egg cup.

Don't know a thing about egg cups other than I've seem them used in movies... but I'd l ike to comment on the composition and the lighting of your photograph.  Excellent!  The raspberries are so lovely they make me hungry.

I don't have a hobby.  Everyone keeps telling me I need a hobby or a dog.  Guess they want to keep me busy so I'll stay off the computer (unless that's a hobby?)

Collecting stuff.
I have a shadow box that contains the following:
A piece of the Berlin Wall
A piece of stone from Tienanmen Square, China
A Piece of stone from Red Square, Moscow
A vial of water that is snow from the North Pole
A bolt from the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
A piece of Grand central Station, NY
Dust from the World Trade Center. NY
Pieces of London Bridge, Lake Havasu
Copper from the statue of Liberty
Pieces of Alcatraz, San Francisco
Coal from the Titanic
A meteorite
Pieces of the deck from the Queen Mary

Note: I did not destroy anything to obtain these artifacts.  They were either purchased or just picked up off the ground. 

The picture is of my father 9/14/01 World Trade Center.  He also got me the Red Square pieces and the North Pole snow when he parachuted onto the North Pole at age 62. For fun!

My hobby is making cards.

I made one for Jbeany tonight. 

She makes beautiful cards!

Here are some photos of five of my orchids that are currently blooming again for me.  My other two are sending up their bloom stalks, two each, but it will be a month or so I think till they actually bloom.  I usually get two blooming periods a year and they last up to two months each.

& the delicate colours of your orchids are just wonderful!

One of my hobbies besides painting is Country Line Dancing but my husband hasn't been feeling up to it since July so I haven't been dancing too much lately.

I have held an atateur radio license for the past 18 years. Not to active the last few months since I moved to a new state. Plan to put up an antenna tower this spring and be more active. Of course I will have to get help with the physical labor. The hams on IHD will understand this beter. I prefer to operate on the Very High and Ultra High Frequencies in what is refered to as "the weak singal modes" or morse code and single sideband. I use operate in all the VHF/UHF contests from remote locations in the US midwest. These are mainly take place on weekends.  I still would if not for my other medical issues (restricted physical mobility) unrelated to dialysis. This coincideted with my other hobby then which was camping (what is refered to as "primitve" tents and sleeping bags, carry everthing in you need and carry it all out inculding your trash).

I also paint. Watercolor on canvas board. Drawing too. Been doing this for decades but I am not that good in other words it was never a career option as many others are better.
 This has been an interesting thread.

Something a little different. This is a free paper kit of the World Trade Center complex that I downloaded from the internet and printed. It's my first attempt at a paper model, and it's not quite done yet. I still have to add three more buildings. I'm doing this one as practice, and when I'm confident enough with paper structure models, there is another WTC kit available (also free) that is bigger and looks a lot better.

Jbeany, I was thinking of you today while cutting out patterns.  Our family is working with an organization called Pajama Pals that collects new pajamas and books for children and distributes them at Christmas.  The head of it said I could make pajamas      so I am surrounded with fabric and very excited to have a new project.   How are your bags coming along?  When is the next craft show?     And the visual of mixing up hand lotion with sewing machine oil is too funny!

Here's a quick assortment of what I've been working on.  Not sure how well the fabrics show up in small pics with my old camera, but you'll get the idea.  Most of the fabrics are decorator samples I got free from an interior designer who was moving her office and didn't want to drag along all her outdated fabric.  Some of them are 80 or 100 dollars a yard to get new, so the fabric quality is amazing.  The odd Indian print is a scarf with Hindu Mayura peacock spirits on it that I got at a thrift store for a buck.  (Yes, I had to google that to find out what it really was!)  The light blue patchwork ones used to be a jacket of my sister's.  The darker pink and blue patchwork one is leftover bits of a quilt and lined with an old denim shirt that got to be too big for me.  Reuse, renew, recycle!

Could you do a presentation with prices?   The Indian prints looks very interesting.   Are we allowed to buy them----is that breaking any laws?    You have a great audiance and you know we all like to help each other.   Let's check with Sluff.      Being "green" items make them even more appealing.

I've been selling them for 20 or 25 dollars.  The ones with magnetic closures or other clasps or decorations run me a bit more in materials, so I charge a bit more for them.  Send me a PM is you want one - I can send better pics of what I have made, or make something in a specific color.  Everything is sized differently - I make the sizes depending on the size of the material sample - no point in wasting any of it!

The California Science Center borrowed one of my photos for a exhibit about Ecosystems - it was cool to be include with a bunch of great photos of Los Angeles! Mine is the Smokey the Bear photo (with smoke from last summers huge Station Fire burning in the distance.) It's nice to have my hobby actually be useful somewhere!
