I would like to  introduce myself, My name Maz I am 46yrs young, I live in Queensland Australia, I was diagnosed 3.5 yrs ago I was pretty ill at the time with renal failure, had a catheder put in for PD, then I seemed to stablise,so 8 months later I had the catheder removed now things have turned again and I have elected to do home hemo, I am still working 6 days a week as we have a business, and have been told I will feel better with dialysis, it is all a bit daunting, but I found this site very helpful so far, and as i travelled down this track I am hoping for a little help in understanding all this, it is a bit of a mind field at the moment, I will be having a fistula put in place in 3 days, so I guess I will have a few questions once that happens   :thx;

Hey Maz,

We can get through the mine field together. We are a strong well experienced community. Take the time to enjoy life once in awhile and don't let this disease or it's treatment dictate your life. However when you need to get advice or rant or offer help feel free to come here and do just that. We are here for you.

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Hi Maz, and welcome to our site.  I've never heard of someone preparing for dialysis in a chronic situation and then pulled off.  Count that as a blessing that you were granted more time.  But, you will feel better than you do right now once you are on dialysis.  Not much.... but better.   :D

With your fistula.......my advice is don't freak out when you see the incision.  You have to have it, so just consider it your life line.

I wish you the best.  Any thoughts on a transplant??

Hi Maz! The more often you can have dialysis the better you will feel (that is why I liked Peritoneal Dialysis .. but that is because they don't have home hemo in my city Yet).

Welcome Maz Great to see another Aussie  here , there is a few of us now. I had my fistula done in October 06 starting home hemo training very soon. Looking forward to your posts.( I live in country NSW)

Thanks for making me feel welcome to the IHD family, I live on the Sunshine Coast if any aussies are up this way,I would love to meet you.
Yes,  my neph said I should feel as those I had won the lottery, I was a bit upset when he said we need to get ready again.
 In my case it is hereditary, my brother has had 2 transplants,1 from one of our other brothers which lasted 5 years, the other didn't take at all, he is back on HD. My mother also had it and did PD for years, she's been gone 11years now, I don't know about having a transplant I will cross that bridge down the track, It was hard watching my brother go through this twice, I will see how i go with HD first.
Anyway thanks again I will keep reading your posts they are very informative, and you realize your not on your own.

Am from Melbourne and am waiting impatiently to be up at one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Well Maz I guess you are me on the other side of the planet!

I own a business also and can't quite figure out how all this time will happen, but I am reassured that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!   :thumbup; 

I am also getting my fistula in the next few days , (I haven't gottin the exact date as of yet) So hello and maybe we can figure this all out!

Noosa is about 30 mins from us and a relaxing spot for a holiday, let me know when your'e in town, and maybe we can get together if you  would like, were you able to get a spot in Noosa hospital for your dialysis while your away, I have heard there a nice group up there.

Hi Maz,

I learnt to book early after trying to get into a Perth dialysis centre in January this year, I started to try and book a place in September and it wasn't early enough, 15 centres i tried, was even willing to travel up to an hour, but no luck.

So I have booked Noosa in November last year for September this Year, and I can't wait !
