My 25 year old son has had renal failure since birth.  Posterior Urethral Valves.  Birth defect.
I gave him a kidney when he was a  young boy.
He has been back on dialysis for 7 years and on the list for 7 years also.  98% antibodies. Tough match.
PD for 4, hemo for past 3.
The past few years have been very difficult, filled with constant procedures, illness.
But he has great faith !
Is a pretty good guy if I do say so myself.
Throughout the years I have been a voyer on this site and decided that it was about time that I joined.

Welcome! I am not a mother so cannot imagine what you are going through to witness your son struggle with Kidney disease fromt he time he was a young boy, but I know how much my own mother agonizes and worries over my health.  But its awesome to hear that he is in good spirits despite all the hardships he has had. I hope he finds the perfect match soon so he can begin to really enjoy his young adult years :)

He probably feels the same way I do, where, since you've lived with it most of your life, all the sickness stuff becomes second nature, normal.  The only time it really sucks is when you see your friends doing things that you know you can't.

btw.. I just want to say.. I think mom's of child kidney patients rock.  I know my mom does.  Once the diagnosis is made, you learn a heck of a lot in a small amount of time.  It's kind of the same when adults are diagnosed, only adult patients don't have to try to explain what's going on to a kid in a way that they will understand.

Riki, I wish my mom rocked.  Although I was a young adult when I got ill, I hoped that it would make my Mom from being so introspective and put her 'problems' into persprecive.  It made absolutely no difference other than give her another self-pity subject - how having a sick daughter makes her feel!  She has never made the effort to provide any constructive help even when I said that I would need some were I to get one.  I love her, she's my Mom but She is the most frustrating person that I know.
