Is there a particular lotion that makes it better?  Anything to stay away from?

I don't know of anything "special", but just be consistant in applying it.  Don't skip a day.

I use "Jergens Ultra Healing Intense Moisture Therapy Fragrance Free" yeah long name but it works great. I buy it in little travel sizes so I can always have it with me. I should use it more often because my skin gets REALLY dry.

Do you find that your skin gets more sensitive to fragrances and additives, or is it basically the same, just dry?

Just to update, Joe's been using Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion and so far it's been working pretty well for keeping the itchies away.  I also love Palmer's Cocoa Butter, but haven't tried that on him yet, as it can be a little greasy.

Any of the lotions that say "Ultra Moisturizing" usually works if you use it daily like mentioned above.

Actually, when you're stuck in the chair for three hours, you can pass the time applying a new layer every 30 to 45 minutes.

My skin had gotten to the point that I couldn't wear dark clothing becuase everytime I scratched my face (which I did every five minutes) it would appear that I had a dandruff problem.

Embarrassing and annoying, you betcha.

I also have an acne problem, so I use ProActiv which dries out your skin even more, regardless of how they advertise it.

Here's to the day when I can wear my favorite black shirt again...

Aveeno (intensive relief repair cream)  Recommend by several of my doctors.  Last longer on the skin and not greasy.  You can put clothes right back on if you do your arms and legs (or hop into bed without messing up the sheets).  Little more expensive but it last a long time (a little dab will do you)

They sell a Lotion/Cream that is 100% pure Cocoa butter it helps with severely dry skin and also with scars. Pregnant women use it to heal with Stretch marks as well.. With my Fistula surgery I had 8 scars from my Wrist to my underarm. I have been using this religiously and they are almost completely faded an my skin is very smooth.

Body butters are good to use, too. I have strawberry and when I am dry, dry, dry I will use it. If I remember I have some.

I like a lotion with colloidal oatmeal, which forms a protective barrier on the skin.  It's made by Nature's Gate.  Also, Rerun sent us something for Secret Santa and it works really well, too.  (made in Spokane Washington).

Aveeno also makes a body wash that helps with the itchiness of dry skin and helps to moisturize. I use that often and it relieves some of the discomfort.

I like the unscented Vaseline Intensive Care lotion.  It works best if I apply right after toweling off after a hot shower.

Try Gold Bond Ultimate Healing lotion.  My father and I both use it and it works really well.  I love it.

Looking after my dry skin: after washing/showering/bathing my body with a no colour/no perfume etc soap, I rub one or two handfuls of (no colour, no perfume etc) Baby Oil, BEFORE giving it another mild wash with a creamy anti-allergic Shower Gel. I take great care under the shower because the Baby oil can become a bit slippery. The towels used have to be washed really hot more often but for me it is worth it because I don't have any problems with irritating dry skin any longer.
For my face I use E45 cream, Vaseline and anti-allergic cosmetica.

Do it yourself spa scrub - mix 1 cup sugar with 1/2 cup virgin olive oil and 2 tbspoons lemon juice.  Use in the shower on dry hands, feet, elbows and knees.  Ahhhhhh.

I'm with Rerun - doesn't matter the brand if you remember to just keep using it!

jbeany - how do you store this?  do you have to keep it in the frig?  I am allergic to many kinds of creams and lotions, so I would like try this because I know I am not allergic to sugar, olive oil and lemon juice!

It does just fine in a covered jar by the tub - I've had my last batch for about a week without any problems.  I'm sure if you wanted to make it in larger amounts, you could pop in the fridge to make sure.  You can also add any other essential oil scent that you like - lavender, etc.  I've also done some where I add a bit of cooking vanilla for a nice scent, too.

The only thing you have to make sure of is that you rinse the shower really well.  In the summer, if you don't, you get ants in the shower!

My naturopath says to use sesame oil on my skin and to take a tablespoon internally every day. It also helps my platelets. He swears by it. Sesame oil absorbs into the skin so you're left with an oily sheen on your skin. I bought a small spray bottle (the little travel size) and spray the oil on my skin. Works great. Now I need to get into the habit of using it every day.

To start with, the only soap I will use is Dove. It has a lot of moisturizer in it and helps a great deal all by itself. Most other soaps are very drying, even the liquid body lotions. If I still need a little extra, I use Cetaphil moisturizing cream. It is so thick and lasts forever!

I checked the website of the manufacturer of the dialyzer my center uses, and I found out something interesting.  The fatty acids contained in sesame oil and fish oil can be filtered out of the blood by dialyzers with excellent middle-molecular-weight clearance. Those fatty acids have molecular weights typically in the 200-400 range, and the Xenium dialyzer my center uses filters molecules of such molecular weights right out of the blood.

Hence those oils should be taken internally after dialysis, on dialysis days.

I don't use anything. My feet are really dry and cracked and when they get unbearable I put petroleum jelly on 'em and immediately put my socks on. I don't really do that often because I have a tendency to put my hands in my hair and don't like my hair to be greasy. When I shower, I wash with a hand held high pressure shower massage and I basically shower all over. I don't use soap. I don't get dirty.  I guess that I should use something. My arms and lower legs are really dry and scaly, but I don't like to preen. To lazy I guess. I don't like to go to get haircuts. I used to only get one haircut a year, whether I needed it or not. Lately my hair has become a dull gray - brown and I don't like it long. Nobody complains that I stink. My wife thinks that compared to other men that she's known that I'm really clean. Maybe the other men she's known were real dirty legs. But as far as lotions, I just don't like to be greazy. I did have some Aloe stuff, that seemed to sort of seal my legs w/o making them greasy, But I ran out and I'm to cheap to go and get some more. So I guess my original statement, "I don't use anything" isn't exactly right.

Hi everyone. I havent posted in awhile. Its been hard and busy times. I hope the following helps. There is this product from Europe called Bio Oil. They now have it here. Its works great on my dry skin and smells great. As for my feet I use Burt's Bees Almond creme Beeswax hand creme. So far both products have worked pretty good. I hope this helps.

Avon makes a gelled body oil that makes you look and feel slick and shiny. Not greasy, you can dress right afterwards. I have Reynaud's syndrome in my feet and the skin gets very dry without the gel . Also, when my feet get cold the toes turn lavender. A rather pretty shade too!!!
