There's an article today on salon.com about how we treat breast cancer. The author includes a line about how "less sexy" diseases don't get attention. I thought of this thread.

On facebook I got a notice about a company doing a fundraiser for breast cancer. I was in an onry mood so I asked about doing something for organ donation just to see the response. People got angry that I even mentioned something other than breast cancer. I was accused of being insensitive, wanting to take money away from breast cancer research, etc. They all shut up when I asked how many of them were organ donors. I pointed out that becoming an organ donor didn't cost ANYTHING and all they had to do was notify the DMV or whoever handles drivers licenses in their state. NO ONE responded after that. They were so offended when they thought I was asking for money but...

Born with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease
1995 - AV Fistula placed
Dec 7, 1999 cadaver transplant saved me from childhood dialysis!
10 transplant years = spleenectomy, gall bladder removed, liver biopsy, bone marrow aspiration.
July 27, 2010 Started dialysis for the first time ever.
June 21, 2011 2nd kidney nonrelated living donor
September 2013 Liver Cancer tumor.
October 2013 Ablation of liver tumor.
Now scans every 3 months to watch for new tumors.
Now Status 7 on the wait list for a liver.
How about another decade of solid health?
