A businesman in one of the school districts in Ohio is offering students
money for good grades. can be up to $100 to spend in that area.
Said if one is motivated it is worth it and they already see improvements
and kids tryng harder.  Times sure have changed, used to be stars in my day.
What do you think of this.  I'm glad taxpayers are not funding this.

I pay my kids
 $50.00 for all A's
 or $10.00 per A,
     $5.00 per B
     0.00 for C's
     -10.00 for D's   and I contact the teacher
    and if you get one F you get nothing and you get grounded for 9 weeks.Plus I will have a heart attack-
     nothing wrong with a dash of jewish guilt.

I have  A B kids-one got an F one time in Math,back in Jr high.I do not mind giving up a little cash
I am investing in there future-and they get to buy some CD's.
My kids are not disrespectful and they do chores for free,because everyone contributes.

I'm sure money would have motivated me.
4 kids, they didn't have that kind of money.
I'm sure it does make  difference.

Was that the same guy that is paying for perfect attendance?  I saw a report on a school where the kids were doing much better because they were being paid not to miss any classes each grading period.  If it works, then it is $$$ well spent, but I agree that taxpayer dollars should not be used for that kind of program.

I've not heard of the $ for perfect attendance in school.
My daughter-in-law gets a monthly attendance bonus at work if she doesn't miss.
It is quite a motivation to be there.

I like Kalamazoo, Michigan's plan better - if you graduate from their schools, you get your college paid for!  It's called the Kalamazoo Promise, and it's an anonymous donor.

But I suppose the cash in hand would motivate the kids to work harder temporarily.  I think if the guy has that kind of cash to dole out, he might be better off funding arts and music programs, or something to encourage kids to love learning for its own sake, instead of for a bribe.

Ok here is my story with EpoKid, I had told him that if he got 3 A's and 2 B's AT LEAST (they get 5 grades) I would give him $50. I never thought he would get better grades than 3 A's and 2 B's on the FIRST trimester, his school is very demanding. Then he asked me what if I get 4 A's I told I would give him $100, again not thinking he would do that well. Then he asked "what if I got STRAIGHT A's" (5 A's) I said "yeah right" ok I'll give you $200, again I NEVER thought that the teacher would give him straight A's on the first trimester since it would not give the student a goal to reach for the 2nd and 3rd semester. Well I was wrong the smart-ass came home with straight A's

BUT..... here is how I got out of it....  >:D

He brought home 5 A's BUT 2 of them were A-  ;D So I told him "Sorry, I said straight A's not A minuses. :o He was not amused, but he is not a spoiled kid and he understood. In the end I am taking him to the "High School Musical" concert at the Staple center and it will be costing me plenty.

So I personally don't have a problem giving money for grades, my parents did it for me and I learned to value money and my credit so I think it taught me a valuable lesson.

Well considering I spent $189.90 on "High School Musical the Concert" Tickets then when you add parking, souvenirs, and food. I will have spent WAY over $200 so he didn't make out to bad.

Well, you could always compromise by putting the cash in his college account.

Epokid is lucky anyhow.  My parents just expected the A's.  A B was worth a lecture on working hard.  A C got us grounded.  I don't know about D's - neither my sis or I ever dared bring one home!

Read the post above yours about how much I spent for the concert he wanted to go to. He got his $200 in Spades.

Oh and believe me, I EXPECT the A's he has NEVER brought home anything less than a B and if he ever does GOD help him.  :o I expect and DEMAND EXCELLENT, not good, EXCELLENT grades. My son has always gotten excellent grades, he is on the Honor Roll, has had PERFECT ATTENDANCE every year including kindergarten, is on the Student Council, was a school ambassador, is on the peace patrol. Plus he has a TON of chores after school. He works hard, so I like him to PLAY hard and that is why he has so much. To me money is not an issue when it comes to my son, as long as he works hard.

I think it is hilarious that you told your son you would give him money for straight As and he went and got them.  Good for him!  Showed you, didn't he! It means he is going to work hard for the rest of his life because he knows that hard work never hurt anyone!  (Also, I was just teasing you!)  Sounds like the High School Musical will be a blast to go to!
I had one of my daughters once bring home an F on her report card.  When I asked about it she turned to me and said :"You are lucky it is just one F."   SHE was lucky there was a kitchen counter between us or she would have gone down!  Oh my, the things junior highers will tell you.  They think they know it all.

We got money for good grades too, but not much. Just $10 for all A's and $5 for A's and B's. Nothing if we even had one C. My mom was always strict on my grades and on everything else, but she got soft on my younger sister, for some reason. She's supposed to be a SR in high school right now, but she failed ALL 4 of her classes last semester so the school kicked her out. My mom never tried to ground her or anything like she did to me. But I look on the good side: I'm in college and making something of myself; she's struggling just to get a job and a place to live.

A=$ 10 Each

B=$  5 Each

C=$  1 each

All A's  $100.00

All a's and B's $50.00  or individual value what ever is worth more

We never got money for good grades.  We got big punishment for bad grades though!

I haven't paid my daughter for good grades, but we do treat her for a good report card.  In first grade they don't get actual grades.  They get checks and minuses.  She got all checks so we all went out for burgers and a movie that she selected.   We don't go to the movies very much so that was a big deal.  Plus we spent at least 50 bucks, so I guess she was aptly rewarded.
