Are any Clinics in the US using BioHole device to start buttonholes ?

The DaVita clinic is still having trouble establishing my husband buttonholes.   On the Home Dialysis Central forum, under Stuart Motts section -  these are mentioned.   I've searched this forum, and found several older posts, but nothing current.     Are these available in the US ? ? ?         Anyone have experience with them ?

I wanted to buy them but was advised NOT to use them as there can be greater risk of infection.  The literature from Nipro cautions about showering with the plugs, using waterproof bandaids or other plastic covering.  Let us know if you find more info.  I searched "biohole plug and infection" and found one interesting looking link to a medical article but I don't subscribe so couldn't access it.

From what I can tell -  its a little plastic peg they use for about 6 treatments to help the buttonhole channel form sooner,  and you don't have the same tech, going in at the same angle,  which has been problematic for us.   But, they probably don't have it in the US yet -- its in Japan, Europe and Australia as far as I can tell.

Thanks -  I downloaded it,  this particular article doesn't mention they experienced infection problems, just discusses how to prevent infection.

Sounds like they'd be a good idea if there's more than one person cannulating the buttonholes.

Im not familiar with buttonholes, and I do ladder technique.  That has served us well.  I do agree with Monrien, as long as there is one individual doing the cannulating!  I still have a problem with the "plastic" and possible infections.  It is still a foreign object that is inserted into the body, (Im guessing here, cause I did not download and read) which means the risk for infections is better! 

But I suppose, if it helps some alot, than why not try it?  My hubby has lost enough due to infections in his body, he doesnt need to chance it again!
He is HIGH risk for anything and everything.

I would be curious for others on here as to how it works?  If it is approved here, would like to know of canidates for this procedure or possibly who has it?

i'll take 2.  I'm currently in the process of developing a buttonhole, and it has to be the most frustrating thing I've ever done in my whole life (nurse is helping teaching how to self needle).  Worst part is, in less than 24 hours time, i get to do it all over again. 

I feel like a pin cushion and the cenobite pinhead from hellraiser at the same time.

I really understand the frustration.   After several weeks, my hubby's may finally be getting established.  He was finally able to stick himself Tuesday - (sorta).   I'm still wondering if these are available in the US.    So far, no one has answered in the affirmitive.

i know it takes a while.  Started buttonhole creation at the end of july, and it is now september and still at it.

When I looked into using them here in Canada I was told I'd have to buy them myself which I would have done but I was advised to avoid them and just establish buttonholes the regular way.  Worked fine.

my clinic never said anything about those items.  they made me jab myself with needles.  But am happy to say the button hole is developing, i'm having somewhat less frustration shoving the needles in.

No one at my clinic had heard of this. My neph hadn't either but he wrote down the name and was going to look it up to see if it might work for me. Yes, I believe that he will, he follows through on his promises. I let you know what happens.
