I'vebeen on home PD about 3 months. My last clearance test are ineffective, 1.7 and 1.6. They are making adjustments to my regimen but I feel worse on many days. Are there some people that can't do Peritoneal?

I'm a 58 year old Family doctor with Alport's syndrome. I've been on PD for almost a year. I've been on transplant list since May 2010 at three centers, Michigan, Cleveland, and Indiana.  My brother has the same disease and is on his second transplant for about 12 years now.

I understand that there are some people who can't do PD. Some of them have had previous abdominal surgeries with lots of scar tissue. Others are just not good transporters and I'm not sure the doctors always know why. I'm really sorry it's happening to you.

We live in the UK and our clearance numbers are  1.6 and 1.9 in the last 3 months. They have been lower in the months before. They did tweak our regime, husband is on overnight cycler so it is green+yellow+yellow and a last fill of extraneal. He also has to do a manual tea time bag of green. Nothing has been said about not doing very well. Perhaps your figers are different to ours. See how you go when they tweak your regime.

I hope you don't wind up like me; when i was on pd originally, it worked ok (my membrane was low average, so it took a long time for toxins to be removed).  the 2nd time on pd, it started out ok, but it quickly deteroiated, the doctor said the membrane thickened to the point where it was no good anymore.
