I know 2 of the 4 are easy to accomplish, but no idea about smoking or pap.

If cold turkey is hard, hope nicotene patch can help.

Good Luck!

:yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo;  You can do this - a new kidney is total incentive to kick smoking!

I know 2 of the 4 are easy to accomplish, but no idea about smoking or pap.

Everything but the smoking is easy, Chris - but be glad you'll never know personally!

I'm not going to date myself, but an old show invoolving a police detective always had a charm pop to suck on after quiting  smoking. But then there possibly goes weight control due to sugar intake.

Sugar Free gum? Sugar Free Candy will cause other problems if eating to much in one day.

Hint: Stock Up on paper stock if you get my meaning. ::)

The main ingredients in sugar free are sorbitol and manitol, so think of it as when mothers use to give castor oil to bad kids or White Castle's known name as Sliders, slide them in, slide them out.

GLM that's really positive news for you! I';m so happy!

I really do hope it's as easy as you say to quit smoking (not a habbit I like at all personally).. I have a few friends who want to quit badly but are so hopelessly addicted it's so difficult for them, they've had a few tries and relapsed and it's heartbreaking knowing how seriously they want to quit it.

Anyway yeah no smoking will help you out in so many ways - health and financial - that even without the "lure" of a tx it's a great option!

Celery sticks?  Put plain water in those Make-your-own Popsicle tubbies?  Just chew on the popsicle stick?  You can buy packs of new lolli sticks as well - check in the cake decorating department.

Or hit the baby department and get a pacifier!

Cinnamon sticks!  You can buy the whole spice.  It looks like a curled up tube, just about cig shape - and it's good for lowering glucose.

Because the immunosuppressants seriously increase your risk of cancer.  Exposing yourself daily to huge amounts of carcinogenic smoke will pretty much ensure that you get some form of it.  The second hand smoke you live with will be bad enough - at least you can leave the room!

Great news about getting on the list!  Now that means you will be waiting on the list for the cadaver kidney right? You mentioned something about finding a living donor, but being on the list usually means you wait for someone's kidney who has passed away. Just wanted to clearify that in case the hospital wasn't clear....I do hope that the kidney comes quickly though!

Simply fab news, GLM.... but lose 4lbs? Surely they're joking, because I laughed when I read that. Have you considered wearing a lighter outfit to the next weigh-in?

Best of luck with your transplant to-do list. Like everyone else, I strongly believe you can do this.

GLM the point about the second hand smoke made by jbeany is a very good one.

It might be a good reason to suggest that maybe those around you quit - heck it will do them as much good(if not better) than you to do so if possible, and since it could have a real effect on you post transplant, not to mention living with smokers would make it that much harder to quit, and stay off them when temptation is literally right in your face - I'd be saying guys - do it for yourself, and for me.

What do you think?
