Has anyone here heard of or has been following the Casey Anthony case, and if so what are your thoughts?

I spend a lot of my time at D watching/listening to the trial coverage on HLN. It's like a train wreck - I can't stop watching it.
My thought is - Casey Anthony is bat-poo crazy and she killed her daughter because she couldn't maintain her "party" lifestyle. Dad seems like an enabler as well. The only sane one in the family appears to be Cindy (mom). However, I don't think that the evidence will be strong enough to warrant the death penalty, just life in prison.

The coverage on HLN is inflammatory at best. The local coverage here in Florida has been mostly fair about presenting the facts of the case.

I feel very sorry for her parents. Saying someone is a bad parent, or they enabled this is ridiculous. There are lots of bad parents out there whose kids didn't kill their children or commit other heinous crimes. How people are pointing the finger at her parents on blogs and on TV is awful. There are so many people out there who are too permissive with their kids, let them get away with being lying jerks, or just don't know how to change their children's behavior. That does not make them guilty of the crimes the kids commit. I may not like her parents,(although I do not dislike them either) but that does not equal their fault in this to me, and I feel deeply sorry for the impossible position they are in. They loved their granddaughter with all their heart. They love their daughter too. How their lives have been ruined as well.
I think she is guilty, and I think she is a psychopath. I hope she gets the death penalty, but I doubt she will.

she is definitely not the Mother of the Year, whether she is guilty or not. But, I think she did it. And I hope she gets put away forever. see how she like the partying in jail.

Sad to say....I think Casey did it. I think she was mad at her mom and ran off with the baby. Then she found that the baby was very inconvenient to her party girl schedule. Rather than take the baby back to mom and dad so they could take care of her....Casey didn't want her mom to "win”. The mother had said Casey was a bad mom. I am sure Casey didn't want to give her mother the satisfaction of being correct. So she killed the baby....probably by accident. My guess is she chloroformed the baby, stuffed her in the trunk, used the duck tape to keep her quiet in case she woke up while her mom was in the club. Caylee suffocated. Casey didn't know what to do with the body and left it in the trunk for days on end until she finally dumped the body in the woods.

What a beautiful little girl she was too! Unless Casey tells how it happened, unfortunately, we may never know! Your senario could be the right one, Brightsky, or at least close to it! I don't think it was premediated though, I do believe it was an accident!
At any rate, it is a tragedy! An innocent life taken is so very sad!!

I don't know much about the trial other than what I glean from various news outlets; I haven't been following it. But I happened to catch a glimpse of Cindy Anthony giving evidence, and it struck me that it is possible that the state is going to take her daughter away and kill her. I can't imagine that no matter how horribly flawed your daugher might be, you'd want to see her killed by state sanctioned execution. So, that will mean that Cindy Anthony will have lost both her granddaughter and her daughter. I don't know if any one person deserves that, and that's why I hope they don't execute Casey Anthony. Her family doesn't deserve to have another member killed. I don't see the justice in that.

MooseMom - very true. I am sure Cindy Anthony doesn't want to see her daughter dead. I am guessing thats why she testified that she was the one who search for chloraform on the family computer. Despite being proven to have been at work during those times.

My hubby has been watching this almost non stop. He does feel like she did it, but there are some strange unanswered things also going on, like the "meter reader" guy, what was his involvement ? The meter reader's son, who seemed like one of the more upstanding people to testify, said that his dad told him early on that he had found the body and would get a reward. I think we will never really know what happened, but a little girl is dead, and her mother either killed her, by accident or on purpose, and should spend the rest of her life in jail. Hubby also felt there was quite a bit of misconduct - by the defense team and the prosecutor's team - so I say -- Man - I'm glad its with the jury now - I was getting a little tired of the minute by minute updates .

Not guilty. It's unbelievable.
I know nothing about this case and have no idea if that was the correct verdict or not.
But when I heard it on the radio today, what I noted was that they had thrown in the "lying to a police officer" charge (3 or 4 counts I think) and convicted her for that. Am I the only one who thinks any law that says it's perjury if you lie to a law enforcement officer violates the 5th Amendment? If someone is under oath, what obligation do they have to tell the truth to those who are accusing you of something? It's a travesty and shows how we have become a Police State. What's next, "show me your papers..."?
It's how the Feds get a 98% conviction rate. They got both Martha Stuart and Scooter Libbby for "lying" about something that was later ruled to not even be a crime! Prosecutorial MO: accuse someone you want to "get" of some crime; interrogate that person for days on end (not under oath); collect any inconsistencies in the answers; ask them again and really get excited if they answer differently so you can charge them with perjury if you can't convict them on the original accusation. In other words, someone might be innocent and shouldn't have been charged in the first place, but they get confused, for example, about how many shares of a stock they owned or when they bought/sold it and give an incorrect answer to something they should never have been asked about in the first place (because the original charge was thrown out of court or the verdict was Not Guilty). Of course, these "offenses" are recorded and edited into out-of-context snippets for the jury to hear. Then they are charged with "lying to a law enforcement officer" and get convicted for THAT. It's evil and violates the very spirit of the 5th Amendment. If someone is innocent of a base charge, then all subsequent acts should be seen as irrelevant and any questioning a suspect went through is also irrelevant and should be declared null and void.

Well, Not Guilty on murder! She has already done 3 years. I don't like the girl and her obviously covering something up! But I really feel in my heart that this was an accidentally killing in which she tried to cover up! Lets face it she was not the best mother in the world, but I don't believe her intent was murder either.
I do think she should spend more time in jail, but we will see Thursday at the Sentencing
So Sad, what a Beautiful little girl! I feel for the whole family having to live with this guilt!

without the ability to prove the when and why the child died you can't convict anyone of murder, even if you think they did it. the prosecution couldn't prove their case. the jury had no other choice. it doesn't necessarily mean they don't think she did it. it just means they couldn't say with certainty she did.

Why wasn't there a hung jury? There could have been a mistrial then she could have been tried again.
I think she knows exactly what happened to her daughter. Why wasn’t she found guilty of at least child neglect. To not report your child missing for 31 days and claim to not know what happened to her or lying about some kidnapping. It all sounds like neglect to me. You lost your kid...for a month! Thats not neglect?
She first claimed she was doing her own investigation to find her missing child…HA! I don’t think little Caylee was lost inside a night club.
