Alports, dialysis '07-'12,cancer'11,transplant '12

« on: June 07, 2011, 12:12:42 PM »

My nephrologist called with the news just an hour ago.  Haven't even told my husband yet.  Ductal Cancer, I have an appointment with the surgeon Thursday afternoon.  I've been told it's the best kind to get, not in the lumph nodes, very manageable.....  Just reeling.  Can't believe this on top of everything else......  Please carry me IHD family!

Oh, Diane......

But I'm glad that this is manageable and not the aggressive kind.  :cuddle;

We have to look for hope and relief in the small favors that come our way.

Where ever you are, see if you have a local Gilda's Club.  I volunteer at my local chapter, and they have amazing support options for anyone affected by cancer - the patient, family, friends, anyone.

I had not heard of this type until a couple of months ago.  Doctors thought my daughter had this.  She is very fortunate; the results were negative. She is 28, not married, no babies yet and she was scared.  The doctors explained that this was the good kind to have (if there is a good one!) and treatable.  I hope they are being encouraging with you, too.     I know you are scared.   Having kidney failure should be enough for one person.   I keep a list on my refrigerator of people I am worried, concerned about and pray for.  I'll be adding your name tonight.   :cuddle;

Keep us updated.

Oh, Diane, as if you don't have enough going on!

I am glad it is a treatable form, though.  Small mercies. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.  :cuddle;

Met with the surgeon today, he wants an MRI to determine if they have found it all.  Now there's a thought that never crossed my mind.  What if there is more to find??????

My understanding is that ductal is very treatable.

There is speculation, based on autopsies of women who died from other causes, that some women carry ductal cancer for years or decades without ever having a problem from it.
