Is it just me whose antivirus software kicks in everytime I visit this thread?  I think greg10 is trying to make my computer poorly!

Obviously, I visit this thread a lot but add little in the way of discussion (I was going to respond to your Babel 'thing' HOD, but I forgot.)

Well, god saw a people who could do anything that they could propose, and confused their language and scattered them across the globe. That always struck me funny.

I figured, given the time zones, it would hit the Aussies first, and since RichardMel is still here, it didn't happen. He's a saint.   :angel;

Listen to Kirk Cameron and his testimony of how he became a Christian. He puts it into perspective quite well.

« Reply #31 on: May 22, 2011, 05:01:24 PM »

Well all I can say is that I do believe in the "Holy Bible".  I do not want to be left behind and I do want Heaven (which we don't have an imaginable description of) and I do not want to go to HELL. The Bible is very descriptive about Hell. Lake of Fire and the ones who refused to believe will burn for eternity and will not be able to die. Burning in fire for eternity?  Whether YOU think the Bible is real or not, I ain't taking any chances. And I really have not hurt anyone by believing in what I believe now have I? Just because others do not believe the same does not bother me one bit. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.  It also does not bother me what people think of me either. Iam a Child of
God through Christ and am not ashamed to say it.

Yes God is all loving!  How many of you would give your son to die for me? No I don't believe Jesus is a myth!  I do believe He came in this world by a Virgin, lived among us and was crucified for our sins.  He rose again 3 days later and is now with his father in Heaven.

How do I know this?  Cause the Bible tells me so.  Remember, I said I Believe in the Holy Bible. Yes it is true, Rapture is not mentioned in the Bible, but Jesus coming down from the clouds and believers going up to meet him in the air, is!  This is what we believers look forward to!

I also believe that we are living in the end times, and know that generations before ours has said the same things. In saying that, I also know that I nor anyone else knows the hour the Lord comes back.  No One!  But I pray that I am doing what is required or is pleasing when that time comes. Even though Iam washed with the Blood of Christ and he has forgiven me of my sins, I'm still human and am in need of Forgiveness daily!

Guess I'm a Weirdo but I'm a SAVED ONE, thanks to JESUS who made it possible for me!!!!  And you, by the way, if you choose to believe it!

Still Love You all, regardless!

Since Jesus was Jewish, I'll defer to the Jewish faith and Gehinnom and Gan Eden. It just seems logical to me.

Yes, I believe Jesus Christ was born Jewish, no logic to that.  Are you telling me that you believe he died for Jews only, because that is not what the Bible says?

I haven't settled on a god yet. Perhaps I should see what the market in gods offers.

A front runner is the god that offers 72 virgins. Now he only needs to guarantee to give me the capability of deflowering 'em all...   :yahoo;

And, House of Dialysis, what, exactly would be wrong with "...boldly going where no man has gone before..." with 72 Star Trek nerds?

Ok then, you don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah!  The Jews, unless converted, don't believe the Messiah has come yet.  They don't believe that Jesus was the Savior of the world, that he was great teacher and some Jews actually believe that Jesus was a false prophet.  They are still waiting for their Messiah.

I have a great amount of respect for the Jewish people.  No one in the history of time has gone through so much persecution as did the Jews.  I don't accuse them of Crucifying Jesus.  They never believed he was whom He claimed.
We all crucified him with our sins is what I believe.  The Jews are God's chosen people, and those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse them will be cursed.

I love them, but believe strongly, that the Messiah has come and will return again, so therefore they are wrong when they say that the Messiah is yet to come!

So you say you defer to the Jewish faith, I can respect that since you are a Jew, but respectfully disagree with your faith in regards to Jesus.  Our faiths are not much different because we live by God's laws!  The real differences in our faith is in the Messiah. I believe Christ has already come and you believe he has not been here yet but that he is coming.

See, even the Jewish people suffer with Kidney Disease!  That is something we all on IHD have in common!

Actuall it would hit the chatham islands first, and they are part of New Zealand, so the kiwis get it first... if it happens. My money is still on the end of the mayan calendar end of the world on dec 21, 2012 - I'm planning an all night party/orgy on the 20th.... any girls want to join me????:rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

Anyway had to share this from the other night I was listening to late night talkback radio (where all lonely and insane people hangout) and this guy called in claiming to be stuck in hospital. Anyway he was freaking out because "I see a red light in the sky and it's the end of the world and I'm so scared!!!!!" and he went on and on but then something he said made me sit up and laugh soo hard I almost peed myself. He said "My doctor said I will have to stay in hospital for another 2 weeks... but... I'm scared... it's the end of the world... and I'm really upset aboutt this!!" - so essentially he was complaining that if it was the end of the world he *wouldn't* have to stay in hospital for another few weeks?!?! ummm....??????

Well I found it amusing.

Alas he must still be in the hospital, and it's probably a good thing for all concerned! :)

I can't believe people actually made money off this!

The overwhelming numbers of nerds are male and that stereotype of basement dwelling Klingon vocal coaching over Bugles and Diet Pepsi lives on. Maybe not so much those exact snacks, but close enough.

The female portion of nerds I know, are mainly into comics, and are heavily tattooed and could all be Suicide Girls, fetish modeling company for the uninitiated. It goes against the typical nerd template, which I am thankful for. Hot nerds are always welcomed in my world.

And I'm a good ol' materialist in the strict sense of the word and not Jewish. But kosher franks are awesomely delicious!

Male? Not the last time I looked! Tattooed? No body art. Into comics? Only if that's a reference to comedians. Suicide Girls? Fetish modeling company??? Yikes! I don't know who they are or what they do, so no again. But, I doubt that I'd be considered hot. (Sorry HOD).

But, RichardMel did not list hot as one of his requirements and he loves cats... Richard? Ah, but you're half a world away.

Ah stereotypes... they are everywhere.

What is a nerd anyway? To my mind a "nerd" or "geek" is anyone with a specialised area of interest. I have a friend (female, incidently) who is totally into all things egypt, as in ancient, mummies, king tut, pyramids, etc... I call her an "egypt nerd" :) She grumbles at the title, but I think secretly understands it is accurate :)

To me, you don't have to love batman or Star Trek or go to sci-fi conventions, or be a physics major or whatever to be a "nerd" - but I suppose generally the vast majority of geeks will be some sort of intersection of the various words of gaming (both computer and board/card), comics, "genre" tv/movies like BSG, Star Trek/wars, Buffy, etc to folks who join into stuff like the SCA, do roleplay(not the naughty sort... well.. maybe some of that lol) etc.

The thing is though. Your "average" nerd is all around you. Sitting across from you at work or on the bus or one of your best friends. The extreme minority, like the ones who dress up as klingons and walk the streets quotiung shakespeare etc are the ones who get labelled and ridiculed but really there's a vast majority of folks out there who enjoy this sort of stuff to various degrees. Consider how many popular movies coming out over this US summe are based on comics or genre stuff like Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America, Eight Mil(I think it is), Harry Potter of course, etc etc...

Anyway I happen to know a number of very attractive female geekettes ho don't have tatts etc etc. stereotypes aren't fair....

btw I'm also an Airplane Geek :)

I'm well aware. I'm a metal geek, myself, as my wife is a literature geek.

This intersections of geekdom and nerddom also serves as the socialization of these fellows. Where the fringe and obscure are commonplace and mainstream culture is put to the side... I'm well aware.

I am quite happy to see so many roller derby/burlesque entities popping up. It shows a good spirit, I think, locally. We have Bizarro Burlesque which is highly active, plus we are having a Burlesque festival on May 28th. Good times!
