Hey all name is Michael.  I'm 23 yrs old from NJ.  Been on dialysis since i was 18.  Never got the chance to go to college since i was diagnosed right out of highschool.  Tried PD first which was a horrible experience putting me in the hospital because the catheter wasn't put in right.  Had it taken out and doctors tried again, ended up giving me a hernia so all the fluid went into my legs instead of getting sucked back out.  The doctors tried 1 more time and was finally successful except the "awesome" nurse at the hospital was inexperienced and didn't take sanitary precautions and got it infected.  So... as the doctors removed it yet again, he ripped something and I had internal bleeding so I needed another surgery to stop that.  They had no choice but to put me on Hemo.  The first fistula was a success except the anesthesiologist overdosed me on pain medication which gave me a bad trip so when the nurses were holding me down they pressed to hard on the fistula clotting it.  The second attempt was a failure and finally the third time worked.  They also had to put in a permcath until the fistula matured, giving me a bunch of nice scars all over my body.  What was suppose to be a "easy" surgery that only lasted 4 hours turned out to be 6 months in the hospital... lawl fml.  Sorry for the ranting am just happy to have found this site full of wonderful, thoughtful people who share my frustrations and to know I'm not the only person that suffered through this hell called dialysis.  I hope to get to know everyone here better and that you all do well in the near future.

Hi Michael - jeeez what an ordeal!! I am so sorry for what you've been through. My daughter started in-center dialysis at 18 years old and after 3 years got a transplant. She's 25 now. Do you plan to get a transplant?
I hope your luck improves. Take care and thanks for joining!

Hi Michael and welcome to IHD.  So..... do you think we have the best health care system in the world?   :rofl;   My goodness!  Makes you wonder how any of us live!    Well, I'm glad you have survived.  The best thing is to learn all you can about dialysis so you know if they are putting your heparin in the correct line.  It matters!

Glad you found us.
