Hi all,
Here's my attempt at introducing myself
I'm a 24-yo woman from the Netherlands. I was diagnosed with membrane proliferative glomerulonephritis type I when I was 7. Although at first my kidney function was rather stable (but very slowly declining), it's falling a bit quicker these days - but of course, you can't predict anything!
Currently my eGFR is 36, I'm a bit anemic and seem to be developing secondary hyperparathyroidism. Because my iron storages are ok, I'm not currently on anything for the anemia, and because my calcium is a wee bit low and my PTH isn't high enough (yet), I'm also not on anything for the hyperparathyroidism.
Current medications include enalapril (ACE inhibitor) and hydrochlorthiazide for blood pressure, Calci-Chew with added Vit D, and Pantoprazole for (unrelated) stomach problems. Then there's a bunch of stuff for eczema and eyedrops and gel for other (unrelated) problems.
I'm a PhD student in Humanities/Social Sciences at Trinity College in Dublin, but am currently living in the Netherlands because of some scholarship issues - so I am flying to Ireland for supervisions every few months, and I have the most amazing supervisor who is very supportive, also where my health is concerned, so I consider myself extremely lucky!
I've been reading a few of the discussions on the board and it seems the community here very honest, so I'm happy I'm able to joi in!
Best wishes from the Netherlands!
