Just another hamster on the dialysis W.O.F.

« on: April 01, 2011, 11:20:39 PM »

It has been a long time since I've posted anything in IHD, though I have checked it often.  So, I felt like I should reintroduce myself.  I am male, married, 58 years old, live in North Carolina.  I am on in center hemo dialysis.  I got Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.  Trying to get on a transplant list at Duke Univ Medical Center.  I don't really hate dialysis, don't like it.  It is a royal pain in the ass at times and others it gives me something to do.  I know that sounds odd, but I like living and plan to do so for a long time.  I'm one of this rare cases, it seems, where I lost kidney function due to injuries.  Won't got into details but my ankle joints were crushed, my back "messed up" and some internal injuries.  Considering all that I seem to be doing ok.  It is hard but I am a rather compliant patient and do what I need to do.  Given my age, I was in good shape before I got hurt.  I enjoyed hiking, wilderness style camping, etc.  Don't get to do that anymore :(    But I am walking which is great, with the aid of Crow Walker type books which support my weight and allow me to stand and walk.
Several of you know me and I am certain many of you don't.  But just wanted to stop in and say  :waving; "HI".

Hey Rob! I certainly remember you.  Thank you for checking in and letting us know how you are doing.  It sounds like things are going well.  Try to come back more often.

Uh oh, the cop is back. Everybody look busy..... Afternoon, officer! (*innocent whistling sound*)

Rob, I was just thinking about you the other day, wondering how you were getting on. You've been such a stranger. Stop it. Now. We need to hear from you.

I am still pre-dialysis and I am fighting
to keep it that way for as long as possible.
What have you been reading lately?

Looking forward to getting to know you, Rob.  I'm new within the past half year and pre-dialysis myself.  Good to hear your dialysis went well - I'm always happy to hear those things.
