We learned last week my sister in law has been approved to by my donor. Her testing and follow up took about 5 months to get to this point.   My transplant center is supposed to be reviewing my case today to confirm I am still ready to go, and that no other tests or records are needed. Then they should contact her to discuss dates. The sooner the better! Just hoping nothing changes or goes wrong.

It's been a long haul to get to this point. Prior to sis in law going through this process, my own sister went through about 8 months of testing and losing weight to be a donor before being excluded on the very day we were going to pick a surgery date. Then a friend with a different blood type went through testing to be qualified as a paired donation candidate. Unfortunately they never found a matching pair for me.

THIS IS VERY GOOD NEWS, AP, hope it goes well for you and we will be praying for you.  I noticed in your info section that you do Nxstage!  Are you still doing Nxstage or are you back In-Center?  I ask for a reason cause if you are on a list they usually do not recommend home hemo but PD.  I never really understood why someone can do hemo in-center and receive a transplant, but not do hemo at home and receive it.  If you are doing Nxstage, then you are the first that I know of. We do Nxstage and love it! Even though he is not eligible for transplantion, I do know of others that are, and they were told that PD is much better if eligible for a transplant!  Just wondering.
Hope all goes your way and you feel great afterwards!!!!

Thank you for all the well wishes!  We are excited.

And lmunchkin: I'm glad NxStage is working well for you.  I am still on home hemo with NxStage.  Started training in Dec, 2009 and transitioned to doing it my home in Jan, 2010.  I have not heard that about the preference for home PT if you are waiting on a transplant. I know that the manager at my dialysis center (I have to go once a month to pick up supplies, check in, etc) has told me about other home hemo patients they have that received transplants.

Congrats!  I went through the same thing, two potential donors, with one being denied well inot the process.  I wish they would test two people at a time, but they won't.  Keep us posted!
