Hi I'm Tricia. My mom has had kidney disease since I was a young child. 3 transplants and 30 years later my mom is now 65 and has been back on D for the past 8 years. The past 4 years have been very challenging. When my mom first had to go back on dialysis, after having her 3rd transplant give her 10 years of fairly normal life, she was on PD at home. My husband and I and our two kids moved 5 hours away, 5 years ago, and my parents were able to come visit regularly. But 3 years ago, my mom got an infection and spent 5 weeks in hospital fighting for her life. She has been on Hemo ever since and her quality of life has decreased. So I've joined as I could really use some support and some insight into how to support my mom better.

Dear Daughter,
You have certainly come to the right place. Kidney disease has created a huge family of support here.

Hi Tricia! Oh man, your mother has been through so much. Does she have internet access? If she does, do you think she might be interested in joining us? Could we help her in any way?
It's hard to be supportive in a practical way when you live so far away. I lived a long way from my mom when she was on dialysis, so I know what you must be feeling. Is she a candidate for another transplant?

Welcome to the group, Tricia. I think it's cool when family members join so they can understand dialysis better. Lots of good information here. Glad you found us!

Hi Tricia, and welcome to IHD. I'm so glad you found us. I wish you lived closer to your Mom and so does she. Visit her often. Us too as you can use the support.
