parathyroidectomy complication? sshaking violently! HELP

i had a parathyroidectomy and now my body is shaking like crazy, my dr doesnt seem concerned, but i can barely walk! its making my body sore im shaking so violently at times, im afraid im going to fall or break a hip. I dont know if its related, or just came at the time i had the surgery... or an effect?
I had some light shaking before the surgery, but it was light, and very rare, this is constnant and hard... my brother calls me bobble head!
HaS anyone heard anything or experienced this???

Have they checked your calcium?  I was low for weeks after my paras came out - my bones were sucking calcium back in so fast I couldn't eat Tums fast enough.  My lips kept going numb.  I didn't shake, but I don't know if that's a low-calcium symptom or not.

its been around a 7, supposed to be 9... he said thats good, and shouldnt be causing me problems...

"Shouldn't?"  How helpful.  He's just rammed you into that cookie cutter, one-size fits all shape.  My doc's insisted mine "shouldn't" still be dropping over a week later.  Oh yeah, and my PTH "shouldn't" have gone right back up two weeks later, since the surgeon insisted that the gland that was the worst was removed and the other one was only "a little oversized" so he left it when my PTH levels dropped to normal during surgery. 

Have you tried eating calcium to see if it helps?  You are low anyhow, so it "shouldn't" hurt you to get some extra!

i was taking tons of tums but i kept getting sick on them, so he switched me to phoslo, i take them as prescribed, and ive been craving cereal like crazy, so ive had milk with that, and the occational icecream (bad i know!)
yes my dr is great at telling me what i dont have, but never seems to find what i do have....
its scary, painful, and annoying, and i dont know what to do, i have a kid, who takes alot of care, and i can barely move, i cant keep on like this... luckily, thankfully, my father and step mother have been a huge help, i couldnt thank them enough, i know they like their alone time, and i have been here since the 26th, so they havent had any!
whats a girl to do?

How are you today GLM ? I would either get onto the renal unit or go to A&E. It doesnt sound right so dont leave it.

welp, i called my d center today, they told me to go to the emergency room, so i did...................
Im so sick of doctors that do not listen. I go in tell them, im shaking like crazy (my main concern) then I also add, ive been throwing up, diareaha, i have sparkles in my eyes, im dizzy, cant keep anything down.... So they do bloodwork, urine test, xray and an ultrasound to check my gullbladder... ok... what does that have to do with shaking??? Everything came back just fine, and they sent me home....
Im glad they checked on that, because i see the possibility there, but still didnt do a damn thing about my shaking like crazy!
I hate doctors
im so scared, and it doesnt seem to matter that i can barely walk...
I personally am thinking that it may be a brain issue, but that was ignored. What the heck am i supposed to do??

why would they send you home when you still have bad symptoms so obviously they haven't discovered the cause?? I mean WTF? That's horrible I hope this gets sorted out soon - it sounds scary!!

I am sorry to hear about your complication after PTX.  It appears that for some patients, recovery may take a while for the body and brain to adjust to new calcium levels.  Have you read this thread?

I realize that this is an old thread.  I found it while researching my mom's shaking post parathyroid surgery.  I was wondering if and how this problem was resolved for the original poster.  Any information will be appreciated.  Thanks.

After the surgery, the body sometimes goes through what is referred to as "Hungry Bone Syndrome."
This can lead to an abnormally low serum calcium level which can cause muscle twitching.

Please make sure blood calcium levels are taken frequently so supplementation can be prescribed when appropriate.
Always consult with your Nephrologist.

Thanks so much for the replies.  My mom is just two weeks post op and I assumed that the shaking was due to post op low calcium, she is taking supplements.   It is very nice to hear that your shaking resolved, she is anxious and will be happy to know that you improved.
