Dialysis Can Wait… Union Workers Leave Sick & Elderly Patients Stranded So They Can Attend Rally
Posted by Jim Hoft on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, 5:30 AM

174 elderly patients, including dialysis patients, were left stranded without a ride to their doctor’s appointments in New Jersey last week. CWA union members decided to attend an anti-Christie rally instead of going to work.

The CWA members were at an anti-Christie rally.

People in a large crowd wave signs and shout as labor unions and supporters, turned out in the rain outside New Jersey’s Statehouse in Trenton, N.J., Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at a unity rally in support of Wisconsin workers locked in a battle over collective bargaining rights. Wisconsin state workers protesting a move by Gov. Scott Walker to severely curtail their collective bargaining rights have found allies in New Jersey. (AP/Mel Evans)

New Jersey State Senator Joe Kyrillos released this statement Monday, via Political Wrinkles.

In response to an apparent ‘sick-out’ staged by Monmouth County SCAT bus drivers, Senator Joe Kyrillos (R- Monmouth/Middlesex) called for the immediate firing of the 17 CWA workers involved:

“It is outrageous that 174 disabled and elderly clients who depend on SCAT were stranded by what appears to be a coordinated effort by employees to disrupt service without notice,” said Kyrillos. “The actions of these workers is completely unbecoming of any public servant, and should make every taxpayer in Monmouth County furious. CWA, the union representing these employees, needs to denounce their members for putting the well-being of these vulnerable individuals at risk, and the employees in question should be fired.”

Seventeen SCAT workers, including fourteen bus drivers for the developmentally disabled and senior citizens, took sick leave with no notice on Friday, February 25th- the same day as a coordinated demonstration organized by labor leaders at the State Capitol. Service was disrupted for 174 clients who take SCAT buses to medical appointments or work.

The almighty unions.  Or as they are truly classified Public Servant.

Obama supports unions doing such things.  Hell he supports unions period.  And he likes the idea of elected officials leaving town to avoid voting on issues they disagree with.

What a disgrace.  Not just the unions but the way politics is played these last 10 or so years.  The government works for the people we dont work for the government.  But i quess we can call this Change??

I do not condone the actions of these 17 people (if it is an accurate reporting) , however I do support Unions and will not vilify all Unions on the actions of a few individuals!!

I have not ever heard President Obama say he "supports unions doing such things"  but he does support unions...as do I!!

Oh come on.  Show me where Obama supported this.  Not unions in general but something specific like this where peoples lives were but in jeopardy.  Please stop the ridiculous rhetoric.

You can follow the outrage machine in real time -  "County officials said the absences left 174 developmentally disabled adults waiting for buses that never came."

But that doesn't sound as outrageous as Dialysis Can Wait… Union Workers Leave Sick & Elderly Patients Stranded

I think most (all?) ride programs give dialyzors highest priority - when it snows here dialyzors are the only people still getting rides - and strandings and delays are a daily feature of these programs. The Tea Party right would cut transportation programs entirely from the budget; what's outrageous is for Christie supporters to feign interest in the well being of people who rely on ride share.

I do not condone union workers walking out on jobs where peoples lives are dependent on them, but I DO support unions and the middle class.  I am beyond thankful for my private-sector union job, which gives me generous medical benefits that I sadly (like all of us here) need.  What is going on in WI, OH, and soon many other states is reprehensible, and makes me afraid for my country and its citizens.  If we are going to go down the path into a third world country, while the rich get richer, I may as well just get off this ride and be done with it.

I never said Oboma supported this. (leaving elderly people stranded)

I said quote:  Oboma supports UNIONS doing SUCH THINGS.

can you figure out the differnce?  The difference between oboma supporting this and oboma supporting the unions.

There are many things that I'm sure oboma wouldn't support.  Unless the unions supported it.  Oboma owes the unions lots. He really cant say no to them.  thus he supports them even if he may not agree with it.

Maybe i read my post wrong.  Feel Free to show my Quote: Where i specifically say that
 oboma supports this.
And not oboma supports UNIONS doing SUCH THINGS

Ps i do say what i mean and mean what i say.

Im curious at the laughing you do.  Is it a game to you to follow me around and try to trip me up YL?
:rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;  To me that is kinda juvinile  DID YOU WIN?  DID I WIN?

Do you read your own posts? Sometimes they are funny the way you try and justify what you said. Hence, the laughter. Follow you? Don't flatter yourself.  When I see ridiculous posts sometimes I just have to call that person out.
