how to dispose unused pd fluid?

Hello all, how do you dispose of unused pd fluid? I have quite a few boxes that baxter wont take back. I switched from the machine to manuals almost 2 years ago and have no need for the fluid. Do you think it is safe to drain in the kitchen sink? It is a white sink and I would hate to stain it or somehow destroy the enamel. My wife would simply kill me. lol 

The reason for wanting to use the sink is the amount of bags I have to drain. Im thinking I could load the sink up, cut the bags and let them drain.

Hi George....

It won't do your sink a bit of harm... It's mainly Dextrose.... But if you're STILL a bit spooked, flush it down the toilet...

However before you waste it, if you're a gardener, or know somebody who is, pour the fluids onto the roses, fruit bushes, veg plants and flowering plants... They love the dextrose, and it'll do them the world of good... Your house plants will love it too...

So get it onto the garden!!!!!....

Huh, I never knew that about the garden!  I am the worst with my plants so I do kind of owe them, huh?

If the supplies are still good (not expired) we take them to our nurse at the clinic and she redistributes, mostly to people who have run out between deliveries or whatever.  She's probably not supposed to but I am glad she does, hate to waste it!

We put all mine in the bath and let them go! (no harm done to the bath or fittings)

Love the idea of putting them on the garden, pity I don't have one!!!

@lostwife - yea I dont think she is supposed to take them. lol but it is good that she does.
@Darthvader - My baxter driver made the same recommendation about the garden. He said, watch out for fighting the ants though because of the dextrose.

The ant problem won't last, George... First good shower of rain will dilute it enough to remove the ant's interest!...

If you're concerned, mix the solution 50/50 with water....

The company retrieved our unused supplies.  We have a few expired bags that I will try out in the yard.  Very excited!

Are you asking the driver to take them back or when you order your supplies?  I thought Baxter took back old supplies.  I dont have Baxter, but I have to order a "pick up" of outdated suppiles.  The driver will tell me no if I ask him to take them with him without an order.

I think Medicare does not allow any clinic to take them back in the U.S. These are proscribed medicines and it is illeagle to share prescribed medicines in the U.S. The Medicare pays the same amount of money to a clinic for each patient. If the clinic takes the bags back, then the clinic gets double payments for them. I have about 30 boxes at home needed to get rid of after my transplant.

Fresenius drivers WILL take them back, but they dont reissue them to patients due to legal issues.  They dispose of them for you ONLY if you ask for a pick up with your monthly delivery.

My clinic would take back extra cases of unexpired solution to help other patients that ran out of something or had a change of prescription before they got their delivery. 
I once had to get some 1.5 solutions from them when I was very ill and dehydrated.  I dont stock a lot of 1.5's so this was in an emergency type situation.
