My Father was struggling with heart disease and diabetes for over 14 years.

My father prepared us for the inevitable for many years. My Mother and Sister always dismissed the conversations we had on the subject of life insurance and life without him.

Well dad developed lung cancer and the illness took it's toll quickly, after one of his hospital visits he called and said "I need to see you son".

I knew what he wanted to see me about and I couldn't sleep the night before I went to see him, so I started to put a few words on paper about how this course of events made me feel,  I came up with this song.

I made the trip to see my dad and we once again went over burial plans and what I would do for Mom with his life insurance etc etc..then he popped the question, he asked if I would read his eulogy.

I agreed to do it but told him I had been working on something I wanted him to hear, I played the song you are about to hear but only me and my guitar(I'm not a good guitar player) I strummed a few chords and sang the song.

He loved it, so I went into a studio and recorded the song the way it is here.

My Father was able to listen to this song for three days straight, before his death August 11th 2001,  he told my Mom that, this song summed up his life exactly the way he felt.

Needless to say this is my Fathers eulogy:

Thanks for listening to a very important part of my life, as I share this with you.

Goofynina and Epoman - Gone But Not Forgotten

WWW
« Reply #6 on: January 03, 2007, 06:01:27 AM »

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.  I am typing through my tears.  Last week we had a celebration for the 100th anniversary of my father's birth - that is why I went to Barbados - so I am still in a sentimental mood where fathers are concerned!
It is absolutely wonderful when we are able to express our love to our loved ones before they pass on and even afterwards.
Thanks again.
Very touching song...

This was another gift sluff had sent me (the song in CD format) along with the plaque and I asked sluff if he wanted to share it with the members. I was very touched by the song, it made me think about my son and my death but in a good way and I pictured my son hearing that song when I pass and it making him feel a little better, knowing that I am in a better place. Thanks again sluff.

Wow Sluff that was fantastic  :cuddle; I wish I could have done something that perfect for my Mum when she passed away a few years ago. You are obviously a very special person and I am sure your Dad is up there keeping a keen eye on you now.  God bless Darling and thanks for sharing that with us.  xx

So touching.
That must have been so comforting to both you and your Dad.
Maybe one day one of your songs will be a big hit.  I hope so.

Sluff, that was beautiful.  I spoke at my Mom's funeral and I know how difficult it most have been for you to write this when you were dealing with the pain of what was happening to your Dad.  I'm sure it was a great comfort to him and  it must have meant so much to him.  You are a very special person!

Very nice.  I loved the music that you put with the words.  I guess that is what makes a song, but I really liked the music.  Good job Sluff I'm sure your Dad was so proud.
