Georgia baseball player gets transplant from coach

By Ken Sugiura
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Wake Forest baseball player Kevin Jordan was in need of a kidney. Monday at Emory University Hospital, he received it from the man who had recruited him to play at Wake Forest, Deacons coach Tom Walter.

Jordan was diagnosed last April with ANCA vasculitis, a disease of the immune system, which limited his kidneys to eight percent of their function. After a match wasn't found in Jordan's family, Walter volunteered to be tested and was found to be a match.

"I think he's in great spirits outside of just being tired," Jordan's father Keith said Monday following the transplant procedure.

Keith Jordan said his son, who signed with Wake Forest out of Columbus-Northside High, hopes to start playing again this summer.

"If he gets back on the field, that's going to be the best story of all," Walter said.
