Hello, my name is Raina.  I posted before but got an email and reply saying I should post up here to introduce myself.  Um, I'm Raina.  I'm 27. I enjoy music, art, reading and video games.  I write bad webpages and poetry.  Most of all, I'm like that guy on office space.  I do nothing, and its everything I imagined it could be.

I had every reason to believe I was healthy until about a week before my 25th birthday.  I got the flu, I thought, and couldn't get better.  It got so bad that I was dizzy and hallucinating so I went to the ER.  They told me to drink lots of fluids and get lots of rest.  Looking over my records later they thought I was on drugs.  Hello?  If I had taken drugs, I would be at home enjoying them, not in the ER.

Anywhoo I went back a week later and they told me the same thing.  I said no, theres something really wrong, and refused to leave.  They did a blood panel and discovered that my kidneys were failing so I was admitted into the hospital the first time.  At first they told me I would likely make a full recovery within a few weeks but then they said I would not because my immune system had eaten my glomuri, the grabby parts of the kidneys that grab fluids and toxins.

The timing of my kidney failure was ideal, I was planning to quit my job on my birthday because my real estate buisness was going so well.  There was a big meeting planned for that day and I had a speech ready and memorized to tell everyone at that company how very much they all sucked.  If I would have hung on for another week I would have had no health insurence when I was in the hospital, or now.

My boyfriend at the time couldn't handle me being sick.  It was too much for him, every time I sneezed he thought for sure I would die.    When we broke it off I thought for sure I would die an old maid, until I met Michael.  Michael's never known me healthy so he's alittle more mellow about my problems.  We've been toghether 2 years.

My anti kidney antibodies are just now going down and I'm just now starting the process of getting a transplant.  I have at least 10 people in my life who are offering me thier kidneys but I don't know if I can do it, risking someone elses health for mine. I think I am going to get a dead person's kidney.

Anyway, thats me.  I'm going to post a few of my thoughts about what I've seen of the transplant process in another post.

Hi Raina.  I too lost my kidney function right before my 25th birthday.  I'm now 45!  Good luck with your transplant process.  Just a note that people live just "fine" with just one kidney, so if you don't get a donor soon, let your friends and family help.  You are young and need to get on with your life.

Welcome to our site and I look forward to your posts!
