Hello group,  I haven't written on in awhile..however, I've been viewing post..I am doing this because I have a concern about swelling in my legs..I've noticed this for two weeks as it progress to get worst over the days..Now, It's more swelling in one of my legs than the other..My left leg is just about to burst with swelling it it just can't swelling anymore.  It's from my feet all the way to my knee..I don't know what it is that is causing it to swell so much...Is it water retention or something with the medication I'm taking or an infection?  I started a high blood pressure medication called Amlodipine and I'm wondering if that caused the swelling?   I missed dialysis on Sunday due to the holidays, but I'll be in today to see if the swelling will go down..This never happened before and now it's getting worst when I walk on it...I am up for any suggestions..Thank a whole lot...

I take three blood pressure meds....one of them (Norvasc) did cause leg swelling.  Let your doc know.  They lowered my dose just a bit and it helped greatly.  As for one leg swelling worse than the other, I have had this for my entire life.  I always chalked it up to the fact that I only had a kidney on one side.  Doc's shake their head though, because I have more swelling on the left side and that's the side WITH  the kidney.  Even now that I have had a transplant when I do retain fluid...it's always more prominent on the left.  One has to wonder what our bodies are up to sometimes! :waiting;

 :thx; I'm thinking about emailing my doctor who ask me to take the Amlodipine..I sometimes wonder as well why this accures in dialysis paitents when they are doing treatment?  I get so fustrated because I cant' figure it out..I'll see what the doc. says about it...

Common Amlodipine Side Effects
Amlodipine has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which a group of people taking the drug have side effects documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine.
 This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

Based on the results of these studies, the most common amlodipine side effects include:

    * Swelling or water retention (edema) -- in up to 10.8 percent of people

The fact that you 'missed' dialysis should tell you something !

So I went to my dialysis treatment last night..I really felt like I was really going to exploid during my treatment..That swelling didn't go down, had acid reflux all night long, and the round nurse gave me another medication to take.   I really didn't tell her that I missed a treatment since she would let me have it :boxing; That is not what I wanted to hear..At times she is a bully when she talks to me and doesn't listen about what I want done.

She said I was taking to much salt intake ??? and I must of lost weight ???  I told her I didn't feel like I did or ate any thing with a lot of salt..I did talk with the manager of the center and she did tell me that missing dialysis would have something to do with it :guitar:  I feel much better talking with the manager of the center than I do with the round nurse..Any who,  the round nurse gave me this big lecture as I suspected with a little bully tone in her voice..She cut down the dose of the Amlodipine to 5 mg with a Corvedilol prescribtion ???  I mentioned that when I started the Amlodipine I stared noticing the swelling..She said it was very rear and it was likely that that could happen :Kit n Stik;..Great!  So again she knows what my symptoms are and aren't?   That is when she said that I must be losing weight and she cut me down from 70.0 to by69.0..with out me agreeing..It' s hard for me to wonder if I should do the medication that she prescribed and just cut the amlodipine by the fact I see from YLGuy I am going to copy to show her..Maybe, that is what I have to do is show her facts to shut her up and listen to the patient first...That you for the info YLGuy..and I do feel better this morning..No swelling this morning..let's see what the day brings me.. :waiting;

So you lied about missing dialysis and let the nurse think it was the medication and she has cut it down ?
