giving gifts

As this will be my first christmas on hemo i was curious if anyone gives gifts to the nurses in center? When i was on pd i had 2 nurses and i always sent a card and a little gift but there are so many in hemo does anyone give each nurse something or just a gift for the center? Any ideas or experiences? I was thinking about it and thought i would ask!

I used to make up a gift basket of goodies that I would have loved to have but couldn't.  As odd as this might seem, I liked celebrating the fact that not everyone's life was as constrained as mine.

My mother-in-law is a retired nurse and according to her you can NEVER go wrong with giving munchies to your nurses!!!

Last year our lot where a right bunch of miserable old so & so's ! We had the most tatty ,tired 2ft tall tree in a far corner of the nurses station. No one gave or received anything. I had also come off pd and onto hemo , so waited to see what happened, if anyone gave cards etc. We also had a group of school children come and sing christmas carols (well two) and no one joined in our really showed any interest ! This year though im going to try and brighten things up ! I have a few ideas in mind !

Last year I made treat packets for everyone int he center including the nurses.  I put something a small jingle ornament on the outside of each package on ribbon with some sweets inside them.  Cost me maybe 5 bucks to do thirty packets.  I walked through the center and gave each patient one. I told the guys int he room I am with, I will start with you all since I sleep with you every other night.  I got a loud laugh from one of them! I put a warm pack in each of their packets to keep them warm.

My nurses LOVE baked goodies, so I'll probably do some baking for them.  I wouldn't do up stuff for the other patients mostly because a lot of them are diabetic, and I have a hard time keeping track of who is and who isn't.  I'd probably give the wrong stuff to the wrong one.  I'll make stuff that I know I can have, and then let them decide if they want any or not.  One fellow (he actually is the fellow who looks after the peer support group) makes the most awesome fudge. I know I'm not supposed to have any, but I have been sneaked a piece or two by the nurses.. *G*

I make Christmas Ornaments, and last xmas I made every employee at my center an ornament (thats 32 people...)
I might do it agian this year, but idk, that took ALOT of clay, and time lol

I usually buy them coffee or something like that. The real party is a week later for new year's eve when I bring in some champers and we all sip some bubbly (after everyone is off, of course!)

I don't remember for sure, cuz I've only done one Christmas there so far, but I think they figure it so that none of us are on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, or New Year's Day
