OR
What did you all do this past weekend?

My Sunday will be (writing this from laptop in bed under a pile of sleepy cats): Going to my knitting group this afternoon. And then breaking Gregory out of hospital for a couple of hours sit in the park (in the car). In the morning (if I bother getting out of bed)... going grocery shopping... I've run out of everything except tea making facilities.

Scheduled a group meeting for a class presentation at mid point for driving distance for all of us. Ended up eating in a hole-in-the-wall place in the middle of nowhere with only 10 tables in the whole diner. Omigod - Italian food from gramma's recipes. Cannolli like little bites of heaven. Ahhhh, nothing like sweet serendipity! We got most of the presentation done, too, around mouthfuls of stromboli.

We went for a walk through one of the forest preserves in our area and walked down to the river. Then we went into our little town and picked up some spices from The Spice Shop. We then went to a new chocolate shop presided over by Alain Roby (sp?) who has been featured on The Food Network. I avoid chocolate now because of the phos, and that doesn't bother me too much because I don't really have a sweet tooth. But my husband and I shared a hot chocolate, and it was indescribably delicious! It was incredibly smooth without a hint of bitterness. Then we went into another town and had dinner at our fave Italian restaurant before attending a concert by our local symphony orchestra. They performed a variety of works from Debussy (a harp and strings piece that was divine), Mahler (not my fave) and Mozart (more of a Bach girl, myself).
Now I'm sitting here writing about it. Next, I'm going to watch "Girl Who Played With Fire" on Netflix while hubby plays videogames with his son who is here for the weekend.

Love this thread....its so nice to hear what everyone else is doing besides all the dreaded kidney stuff
My Friday evening started with a nice relaxing evening.
Then Saturday another relaxing day followed by a nice dinner out to a Japanese Steakhouse with hubby, my sister and oldest daughter.
Today, a little laundry and getting ready to watch some FOOTBALL!! (Go Chiefs!) My Dad will be coming for dinner tonight. Hubby is fixing Chicken and Dumplings.....YUMMY!
Though, I will have to watch the dumplings since that is not so kidney friendly but "moderation" and my binders...right?
All in all a great weekend!!! Hope you all have had a wonderful weekend as well!!

Went to the cottage and made two batches of regular shortbread cookies, one batch of chocolate shortbread and one batch of icebox which are in the fridge for baking next weekend. Also made some cranberry sauce...all this to take down to mt relatives on US thanksgiving weekend.
Drove my mother-in-law home from the cottage, stopping for lunch on the way and to get her some fresh lamb chops from the butcher. Home to dust and destruction due to bathroom reno ongoing...immediately left the house for an hour's walk during which I popped in to a neighbourhood open house to have my mind blown by the cost of housing in Toronto. Now going to return a phone call from a friend who needs help with a recipe...hope I have the answer.
Have a good upcoming week everyone.

Yesterday, I took about an hour and cleaned my poor, neglected Tassimo coffee maker. It had been sitting for months because I couldn't be bothered to clean it. So, I warmed up some water, got a flashlight, and took the removable parts out and put them in a dish of warm water to soak. I took a wash cloth and cleaned the nozzle, the barcode window, and the part that punctures the foil in the disk. I put it back together, filled the water tank, and switched it on. No red light came on telling me that the tank was empty or needed to be descaled. I ran the full tank of water through it. Once, it told me that the tank was empty when it was still half full. I just pulled the tank off and put it back on, and it worked. So, I made myself a celebratory cappuccino. Then, I ran the remaining water in the tank through to clean it, and put it away.
Today, I was woke up and told that we were expected at a birthday party. It was the first I was told of it. We went at a time where we figured we'd just make an appearance and go home. Kids birthday parties make me nervous, and this one was no exception. They had it at a community centre that has a bowling alley in the basement. When we got there, the kids were bowling, blacklight bowling. Needless to say, I stayed away from the alleys, cuz it was too dark in there. When they were done bowling, they went upstairs to a small meeting room that was twice the size of what they needed. There was 8 kids at the party, but they were running around and screaming so much that it seemed like 50. Before they had any food at all, they played freeze tag, then they ate some pizza. Then, they played musical chairs with no music. Then, they opened presents, and had cake. When they got treat bags that included super bouncy balls, we figured it was time to go. With my vision issues, I'd never seen of them headed towards my face. As we were leaving, I heard one of the kids saying, "want to see how hard I can throw this against the wass?" Yeah, I was glad to get out of there when I did.. *L*

I went hunting deer with my sons then went to a retirement party on sat. evening. Went hunting sunday morning then put front brakes on my son's suv, chopped firewood, cleaned the stove, put the boat away from the pond had a very nice dinner with the family, went back out hunting but had no luck, seen some deer but were to far away. Now the bow and arrows have been put away for the year and surgery is tomorrow for my fistula.

On Sunday I went to the Our Feast of Sharing Dinner that our town, major supermarket(H.E.B. for those are familiar with Texas) and several other businesses. The food was delicious and there was music floating through the air from mariachis and other musical groups. The mayor, sheriff, police chief, and county commissioners all joined in the dinner. This was my first time attending and I thought it was very nice.

Saturday night we had our Turkey Dinner at our clubhouse. It was wonderful. This time it was catered. I have worked these dinners for the past 4 years and it is always exhausting. This time I was actually a guest and I loved it. Sunday our maintenance man here at the Meadows got married. He is friend to all of us and is so young and handsome, his bride was liovely and they seem to be so happy. Thoroughly enjoyed the reception and the ceremony and we even had an Elvis impersonator for entertainment. Boy, was I tired on Monday. !!

My son is due to fly in on Sunday from London for Christmas!!!!!!!!
I am
really
nervous because as I've told you all before, he is mildly autistic and while he has travelled before on British Airways as an unaccompanied minor, now that he is 19, he's on his own this time. I'm nervous because the weather in the UK is awful (I lived there for 18 years and NEVER had a white Christmas; I think it snowed only 3 or 4 times during all those years), and I'm worried that his flight might be affected. They don't do snow in London. The last time he was here, it was over the Easter break, and his flight back to Heathrow was cancelled because of the volcano in Iceland.
But that meant I got to have him an extra week, and that's been about the only good thing that has happened to me all year. Bring on 2011 before something else goes awry.
This is a photo of my son taken on holiday in Italy. I don't know what in the world he's doing, but it's some sort of European rock star kind of thing, I guess. My son is quite a good bass player and a very good drummer.

It was my birthday - a rainy day, good day to wrap Christmas gifts. My friend Rebecca surprised me with a pumpkin pie and we ate some for lunch. School was out early and everyone was home, Becca came in from NY 2 days ago. We had pizza for dinner and a lovely cake from my kids. I got a cookbook from Jenna, a new scarf from Becca, and a new lense (nifty-50) for my camera. James drew a handmade card, very sweet. It was a nice day. Tomorrow the girl's and I will attend the Holiday Sing-A-Long with the LA philharmonic at the Disney Concert Hall.

Mine is similar: ground round, onion, egg, saltines, salt and pepper - no bell pepper or sausage - sounds good though. The best part is the the jar of "Homade Chili Sauce" on top in the last 20 mins of cooking
http://www.saffola.com/chili.htm
- but I like it the next day, sliced and warmed a little, on sourdough bread, yummy sandwich.
