TGH as in Toronto General Hospital???  That's where I had my transplant and it's a great hospital.  I still go for blood work monthly so I'll start "looking" for you down in the lab in December.  Congratulations and I'll be thinking of you.  Living donors do indeed ROCK.   You'll be up on the 7th floor and I hope you get a nice view...I looked out over the Parliament buildings on Queen's Park which was lovely but most importantly I wish you smooth surgery and a long lasting transplant.

PS.  Dr Robinette was my surgeon and Dr. Cole is my neph.

This is most unlikely takamore...I've known Ed Cole since 1985 and he's never been a surgeon.  Michael Robinette. is a brilliant surgeon and if you have him you really have one of the best.  Dr. Cole is the director of the Kidney Transplant department at TGH and he's been my main man for kidneys since my first transplant back in 1985.  Dr. Robinette did both my transplant and the removal of my first failed trx, two months after that.

http://livekidneydonation.blogspot.com/2010/05/my-surgeon-dr-michael-robinette-md.html

It's easy to get mixed up when we're seeing docs by the dozens.  Once again, all the best, you're in very, very good hands from my perspective.

Well m'friends, i'm finally home!! seems like a lifetime.. another lifetime even.
the kidney transplant happened on nov.26th. my sister patti gifted me with a 100% compatible match... while i was waiting to go into surgery, dr. robinette came over to me and said "your sister is giving you a beautiful kidney, and it's sitting right over there on ice waiting".. and thus the journey began.. hours later with morphine pumping thru me and in acu, my new kidny was working like an insatiable drunk on cheap booze!!  pumping like crazy!! at the same time they were flushing lots of fluid thru me.. actually so much so that i ended up with 9 kg too much fluid.. that led to a few yucchy days.. there was no problems with the incision, and recovery was well underway.. of course it helped i was in the penthouse of acu wards and the day/night nurses i had were just too much fun for any sane man (which i wasnt).
down from ACU to the wards.. testing testing monitoring and lots of wonderful care!! Patti (helped of course by my other sister Peggy, surrogate donor if you will)was recovering marvelously and in fact was released 5 days after the operation.. her follow up was some testing and the only real trouble she had was getting used to the initial fatigue.. she's an angel i shall thank every minute of every day>>
soon came the biopsy.. and first bump in the road.. the vascillitis from the old kidney sort of awoke from its dormancy and found the new kidney... But, not to worry, nothing a regime of Prednisone couldnt handle.. my memories of the prednisone from when i first was diagnosed are not pleasant.. thankfully the dosage im on is fairly light and i'm managing it quite well.. and it wont be long before the dosage is down more and ill hardly notice it.. i mentioned bumps, i know.. well there are a few but they are being dealt with.. one is the recurring tendency for the potassium to creep up, and the other is to keep the creatin down.. these are being managed, and im very confident with some time and more healing i will be chomping at the bit..
as much as id like to jump in the car and visit all of you i cant. hopefully i'll be driving again in a month or so, but that depends on the medications really and the consent of the transplant team..i'll be off work most likely closer to 3 months... but i also hope to have some time to work on puzzles and play my games and remind myself how much each and every one of you mean to me..

for now my fulltime job is to rest and recover, to get used to and embrace this new life i've been gifted, complete with all the anti-rejection/immune/infection habits and precautions i have to make automatic for the rest of my life.

and to recognize the blessing ive been given... and a special thanks to patti, peggy, and Lee who have shown me so much love in my recovery

here's to a fresh start!!!!!

dec 14th update... doing well and (happy dance) prednisone is now down to 20 mg ... die vascillitis die :):)
